“Survivor” Talks Restaurants at Montgomery College
College’s “Marriott Hospitality Center” to Host Restaurant Design Lecture On Saturday, March 1 by Current Reality Show TV Celebrity
What do one of Washington’s hottest bachelors, the grand-daddy of the current genre of reality television shows, restaurant design, and Montgomery College’s Marriott Hospitality Center all have in common? The answer is he… and they… will all come together in a lecture by noted restaurant designer and current “Survivor” contestant, Matthew Von Ertfelda, at the community college’s Rockville Campus on Saturday, March 1 at 1 p.m. In a discussion open to the public, Von Ertfelda will share his tips and insights into modern trends in restaurant and bar design, among other topics. One topic he will not be able to discuss yet, due to contractual obligations, is his experience as a participant on “Survivor: The Amazon,” which is currently airing on CBS. In addition to being a restaurant designer and chef, Von Ertfelda is a bit of an adventurer, as exemplified by his recent participation in the latest Survivor series: “Survivor: The Amazon,” which began airing in February on CBS. He has also crossed the Darien Gap and trekked into unmapped areas of Papua New Guinea. Last year, People magazine identified him as one of the magazine’s “50 hottest bachelors.” The Marriott Hospitality Center, which was launched with support from a major gift to Montgomery College from the Marriott Foundation, promotes the hospitality industry, through culinary and cultural events, and sponsors scholarships for Montgomery College students pursing their studies within the field of hospitality management. The center also provides opportunities for professional development for students, faculty, and industry professionals. Von Ertfelda currently is director of concept designs for Marriott International and has broad experience in the international restaurant scene, having received a culinary diploma from the L’Ecole de Gastronomie Française Ritz-Escoffier in Paris and a bachelor of science form Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration. He worked in France and Asia before joining Marriott International. The Saturday, March 1 lecture is free and there will be an informal reception following the presentation. The event takes place in Room 136 of the Technical Center on the Rockville campus, 51 Mannakee Street, Rockville. For more information, please contact Julie Zagars, coordinator of the Marriott Hospitality Center at 301-251-7104 or by e-mail jzagars@mc.cc.md.us.
