Colleen Haskell, who competed on the first "Survivor" and Elisabeth Filarski, one of the contestants on the Australian Outback "Survivor" seem to have a lot in common. They are both young and pretty, bright and easy going. But Colleen only made it about half way through the game before being voted out by her fellow survivors. Does Elisabeth have what it takes to go the distance and become the next Survivor champion?
Among those who claim to know her best, some say yes and some say, well, maybe not. It seems that Elisabeth may be too "nice" and, what's worse, a "team player." Childhood friend Megan Flock describes Elisabeth as "sweet," someone who "likes to be friends with everyone." Flock fears these qualities may hurt Elisabeth's chances on "Survivor" as they "would start to annoy certain people."
Perhaps it's just been awhile since Megan and Elisabeth have hung out together, because those
who have known Elisabeth more recently have a different opinion. Jennifer Finley, Elisabeth's softball coach at Boston
College, says of her former player, "when it comes to competitions, she thrives on cutthroat things." Oh, and by the way, Elisabeth was a walk-on who had never played fast-pitch, and worked her way into a full scholarship. Not bad.
A fellow employee says that Elisabeth "definitely has the personality for 'Survivor.' And she's trained for it." Perhaps he's referring to her completion of the Boston Marathon.
So perhaps the Elisabeth-Colleen comparison is only skin deep. Apparently Elisabeth has the character and personal qualities, as well as the athleticism to see her through the ordeal in the Outback. Will she make it all the way? Only time and the Tribal Council will tell.
