Press Release for Get Gone Cruises -  5/31/04

SURVIVORS JOIN THE SAIL TO SURVIVE

Miami, FL--Jenna M and Ethan, two of the most memorable players to win the hit television show SURVIVOR, have joined with getgonecruises.com to honor another kind of survivor—cancer survivors.

“I was watching Survivor All Stars and they showed the episode when Jenna left the island to be with her mother who had battled breast cancer for 12 years. Her mom ended up passing away soon after she came home,” explains Ann Kingrey co-owner of getgonecruises.com, a travel agency that has hosted several cruises to raise money for Breast Cancer research. “Since my sister Joan and I lost our mom to breast cancer I could relate and really felt for her. I contacted her and a few emails and phone calls later “Sail to Survive” was born. Jenna brought onboard Ethan Zohn who suffered the loss of his father to colon cancer. Jenna and Ethan are planning on inviting a couple of Survivor friends to sail with us. We won’t spoil the surprise just yet.”

“Sail to Survive” is a 7-day fundraising cruise leaving Miami, Florida on April 24, 2005 on Carnival’s Fun Ship Victory. A portion of each cabin fare, as well as monies raised from other activities onboard will go to the Avon Breast Cancer Foundation and Ethan Zohn’s AIDS awareness foundation, Grassroot Soccer. Pittsburgh’s Animal Friends Shelter and the Colon Cancer Alliance will also benefit. Goals have been set for raising $100,000.00.

Jenna Morasca, the “Sole Survivor” of “Survivor: Amazon”, lost her mother to cancer just 8 days after choosing to leave Survivor: All Stars. “My mom battled breast cancer for 12 years, she was the strongest woman I ever met and a true ‘survivor’” says Morasca. “She was and still is—even though she passed away in November—amazing.” Jenna’s participation in the “Sail to Survive” cruise is her way to translate her fame from Survivor into a way help women, like her mother, who battle cancer daily.

Like Jenna, Ethan Zohn, the “Sole Survivor” on Survivor: Africa, also lost a parent to cancer. At the age of fourteen, his father died of colon cancer. His father had always told Ethan that “to make happiness real for others is the greatest gift.” Ethan has taken his message to heart by co-founding a non-profit organization called Grassroot Soccer. The aim of Grassroot Soccer is to reduce the spread of HIV and AIDS by training well known African soccer players to educate at-risk youth about the dangers of HIV infection..

“Sail to Survive” is a 7 day cruise leaving Miami, Florida on April 24, 2005 on Carnival’s Fun Ship Victory. The ship docks in Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Ocho Rios. Prices start at $736.00 per person, not including transportation to Miami. Information can be found at www.sailtosurvive.com.

“Ann and I created the ‘”Sail to Survive” Cruise in honor of our Mom and favorite cruising partner, Carol Peterson. We hope that the funds raised will help save the life of another mother, sister, daughter, or friend,” says Joan Larsen. “Cancer survivors and their families know that you never know what tomorrow will bring—everyday is a gift and opportunities to spend quality time building memories with family and friends are priceless. “Sail to Survive” blends the chance to build memories that will last forever with helping to raise money for these very important causes. Survivor-TV fans get a chance to meet Jenna and Ethan in person. To participate in Survivor-type games and activities poolside is something that doesn’t happen every day, but that’s the whipped cream on the top The real satisfaction is knowing that you are doing your part to help make the world a better place.”
