Day 62 Sept. 9, 2002 - Live Feed Updates  from BB3 Updates.com

Danielle Sets Up Marcellas - by Charlie Toft

You know that irony about becoming what you most hate? Here we are on Monday morning at 8 o'clock, and Marcellas is the first one up, checking on the hot tub and the pool. Will a one-hour session on the elliptical trainer now ensue?

Not exactly, but with the house currently in what amounts to a deadly-dull cross between a lovefest among friends and a ward of comatose patients, Marcellas's muttering to himself (and to us) is better entertainment than we've been getting recently. He makes profane comments about missing Eric and Roddy, and complains yet again that he's the only one who does any work around the house. He cackles about his ownership of the Golden Veto and rips on Amy for (allegedly) gaining weight in the house. Marcellas eventually naps on the patio chairs (yes, just like Gerry used to do).

When Danielle gets up, she immediately tries to find out what Marcellas intends to use his veto, and if so, who he would prefer to see evicted. He weighs the relative merits (or demerits) of Lisa and Amy-both were in the original six, and Lisa nominated him first. But then Amy campaigned against him the week they were first nominated, and she's been irritating the whole house recently.

Danielle seems to suggest that if Marcellas really wants Amy out, he really doesn't need the veto. He answers that he's not inclined to use the veto at this time, which seems unbelievable-even vetoing Amy figures to give him an insurance vote, so why not use it? They agree that while Amy talks a lot about wanting to leave the house, in the end she really wants to stay. Marcellas speculates about heading to New York after Big Brother is over, and hanging out with Chiara, Lisa, Eric, and Jason. He doesn't mention Amy or Roddy, or Danielle for that matter.

Jason gets up by noon (Lisa and Amy still in bed), and Danielle takes advantage of a convenient Marcellas trip to the Diary Room to tell Jason that Marcellas will be coming after him-he needs to go now. Jason now wishes he had nominated someone other than Marcellas. Of course, that's easy to say now that he knows Marcellas won the veto, and the veto is also going to make it impossible to get rid of him unless Danielle can somehow convince him not to use it. Jason urges her to please win Head of Household next. Perhaps his nerves are getting to him; Jason says he's been having weird dreams. It bothers him that the Internet knows what he's saying in his sleep, and he doesn't.

1 PM and Amy has still not made an appearance. The houseguests are informed that what they've been smelling outside is a fire in the nearby hills-it doesn't seem a threat but they'll be kept updated. There was a problem with brewing the first pot of coffee, and Marcellas uses this as an excuse to update everyone on his "hunger strike"-he's drinking coffee with sugar on an empty stomach, and will no doubt have a stroke and go into kidney failure. Jason points out that people lose their minds in the Mash Unit, where Marcellas has been sleeping.

Marcellas does do us the favor of describing the veto competition a little more-it involved having to crawl between pictures of houseguests while trying to avoid being hit with laser beams. Amy is finally awake now-it sounds like she may have finished second to Marcellas in the challenge.

Things are boring. Marcellas talks about the time he was robbed, with the thief taking hundreds of CDs and a Coke from his refrigerator. He helps Lisa do some surgery on a T-shirt-she wants to turn it into a tube top. Later on, Amy is out in the hammock singing and Big Brother has to step in to get her to stop. The others complain about how she bends the singing rule. Amy says (they can't hear her) that she's in hell, and doesn't even have the devil to look at. They apparently were allowed a little singing time last night while the feeds were cut, however.

It's more cards and movie-talk. The closest thing to drama comes when Amy gets upset at Jason, who has accused her of tongue-kissing her dog Bucky. Lisa has the right idea and takes a nap. Marcellas heads to the bathroom, an event noteworthy enough to be covered on all 4 feeds. He has promised to eat a sandwich for dinner, which pleases Danielle.

The houseguests are informed of the upcoming schedule: the next Head of Household will be allowed to compete in next week's multi-part competition as well, the last one; and there will be a luxury competition following the live televised eviction on Thursday. They are also told the last day is September 25, something they've been wondering about-many had assumed an end date sometime in October.

Amy tells Danielle she'd really like to be awarded the veto, because she thinks she's been used by the men in her life before, and the house has been no exception. Danielle and Marcellas get in the hot tub, and she tells him what Amy has just said, which naturally irritates him. Marcellas says that he assumes that Jason will select Danielle to go with him to the Final 2, but she (naturally) disputes this. Danielle says that Jason may be worried that she's too nice to win against (she really said that!) It's hard to say if Danielle is merely trying to soft-pedal the extent of her alliance with Jason, or subtly setting up Jason to be evicted in the event Marcellas wins Head of Household (she continues to talk up Jason's popularity with the evictees).

In the hot tub, the houseguests talk about what they hope to get out of the show-Amy says she'd like to be one of those women who escort people offstage at awards shows, which is a sadly tiny ambition. Jason continues to make little remarks that indicate that he's not pleased that the others failed in the food challenge. He says that Big Brother promised him it could be done, after all.

They continue to recap the game and some of the crucial moments in it to this point. Danielle says she doesn't really need to see the challenges on the tapes-she just wants to see the Diary Rooms and the private conversations (wait till people see her private conversations). When the gang finally leaves the hot tub, they complain that their skin is itching. No one really knows how to take care of that tub anymore.

In a gesture that seems unlikely to raise the excitement level, Big Brother has provided the houseguests with soapmaking kits. Has it really come to this? Amy seems pleased by the prospect of making glitter soap, but the others end up in bed by midnight. They continue to chat for a good long while, with Marcellas next door and Jason continuing to hang out as well.

Jason talks about being eager on his wedding night, which amuses Amy and Danielle. The women insist that it is finally time to get rid of the lizards, and Jason says he won't stand in their way, as long as they wait until after his term as Head of Household is over. To cap off the evening, Danielle amuses the others with an allegorical story about overcoming "the devil" (Roddy) with the help of the "golden angel".

"We enjoyed the rest of the summer with glee, because the devil was out of the house. The end," she finishes. An ability to quickly make up stories has served Danielle very well in this game.
