Day 61 Sept. 8, 2002 - Live Feed Updates  from BB3 Updates.com

Marcellas Wins the Golden Veto - by Charlie Toft

Well. For feedwatchers who have become accustomed to nothing interesting ever happening on Sunday morning in the house, and few interesting things happening at any time as the population has diminished, today is a surprise. Marcellas is up at 10 AM, and immediately asks Jason, who is in the bathroom, if they can have a talk. The two head outside.

He gets right to the point: I though the two of us and Danielle were going to watch each other's back. So why am I on the block and not Lisa? She's been sick and hurt, she hasn't done well in challenges, and she was part of the Original Six; while I've been a stronger player, he says. Marcellas lists the times he's interceded to keep Jason out of harm's way, mentioning Amy and Chiara as two people who wanted to nominate him. He seems to be slowly sensing the big picture, making it clear that he suspects Danielle and Jason have chosen each other over him. He grumbles that Danielle has worked it out so no one ever nominates her. Marcellas tells Jason he deserved more of a warning.

Jason was prepared for his standoff with Roddy, but is obviously ill at ease now, just after waking up. He says his decision was based on what would help him in the future, which doesn't really compute. He tells Marcellas he made a mistake, and apologizes for nominating him. Marcellas asks him directly if he has a deal with Lisa; Jason answers no, but he wants to stay on good terms with her. They end the talk with a hug, and Marcellas tells Jason he shouldn't worry about retaliation. But if Jason needed any more incentive to want Marcellas out of the house, he just got it.

The two of them head back to bed for a while longer. After the houseguests are up to stay around noon, Marcellas gives Danielle a quick heads-up about the earlier chat, saying that Jason admitted to a mistake, and that he believed they were all still on the same page.

Danielle tells Lisa and Jason that she's glad they are finally getting to sleep at a decent hour, now that (she implies) Roddy is gone. It's hardly budged the time they make up, though. It's an afternoon for lying in the sun and waiting for the veto competition, which will be held at a still unknown time. The ladies discuss their idea for a Big Brother calendar, an almost certainly over-optimistic idea, since 2003 calendars are coming out now and no one will remember these houseguests a year from now. But we'll let them have their fun. Marcellas reminds Amy not to let Huck the shark get sunburned. Jason is inside shaving his chest.

The houseguests are ordered inside for lockdown at 2 PM. Veto competitions have generally taken place early in the day; Jason now suspects this one may be at night. He questions whether all of their boring lockdown stuff like candlemaking actually gets on the Internet (does it ever).

Marcellas is already back in bed. Danielle heads off to listen to Jason's CD. Jason tells Lisa it's good to not be in a relationship for a change. Lisa says he should try to find a different kind of girl, one who is already nicely set up in life. They're just killing time till the competition, and not knowing when it's coming is starting to make them irritable.

Marcellas announces he won't be eating again until after peanut butter and jelly week is over-he thinks passing out on live TV will be great for ratings. Danielle suggests that they all do a bed-in a la John and Yoko, as a lighthearted protest against their inactivity. Instead, they do the "movie game" again-it's amazing they haven't gotten around to every movie ever made yet. Pretty soon, they start recapping soap operas.

As the lockdown approaches six hours in length, they are starting to guess that the veto competition might be an endurance contest, which Marcellas points out will be tough considering that no one is eating. He says he'll bow out early, but an endurance contest is a good idea from the producers, with both nominees having extra incentive to win, and others who would like to win, but don't have the same life-and-death incentive.

Marcellas pretends (we think) to accuse Big Brother of insulting his dignity, yadda yadda. Lisa teaches the others a new way of playing solitaire, which is getting close to the bottom of the boredom barrel. Amy and Marcellas are shaking, showing the effects of caffeine on an empty stomach. Danielle starts reading from the Big Brother manual again.

Jason tells them it's getting near time. They've been instructed to do some warm-up exercises, which provokes a predictable amount of complaining-Marcellas again. He states that he will not eat, bathe or shave as a "protest". Before they all go completely insane and someone starts doing a Nicholson-in-The Shining impression, it's time for the veto competition, at about 9 PM. And do the feedwatchers who stood by during this day of unprecedented boredom get to see? Of course not.

The feeds are out until about 12:50 AM, so it was indeed a long competition. Lisa says she can't wait to see footage of it, so it sounds like they had a great time. And then, confirmation of Jason and Danielle's worst nightmare-she congratulates Marcellas. He can veto his own nomination now, unless his false sense of security is so strong that he chooses not to.

A disconsolate Amy heads directly to bed, while Marcellas breaks his no-shower policy. Danielle is still urging him to eat. Marcellas drops a few hints about the nature of the competition-it apparently involved him wearing stretch pants and having to crawl around.

Jason is heading right to bed. Danielle goes in to say good night. She asks him if he is going to nominate her (assuming he'll now have to make a new nomination), and his oddly noncommittal answer is "I don't think so." In case he didn't get the point, Danielle says "Don't put me in," just before giving him a hug.

Danielle heads out to the kitchen ostensibly to do a little prep work for morning, but Marcellas is now sitting in the living room, and now that he's apparently staying in the house, Danielle sees the need to re-open ties with him. They are playing cards side-by-side, and eventually they talk enough about the competition that we can figure out it was some sort of obstacle course combined with houseguest trivia, and lasers were involved too-no wonder it took forever to set up. They agree that Amy seemed upset about losing. There's no game talk, though we do learn that Danielle, who knows everything there is to know about movies, has never voted.

After they head back to the bedroom, the two of them plus Lisa and Amy actually talk till past 3 AM, just like in the old days (that is, 4 days ago). Marcellas has called this "the longest day in recorded history." And if you were obsessed enough to actually watch the whole thing on the feeds, you'd no doubt agree.
