Day 57 Sept. 4, 2002 - Live Feed Updates  from BB3 Updates.com

Voting Day - by Charlie Toft

Just three weeks left now-the houseguests are three-quarters of the way through the journey that is Big Brother 3. And even though they've been going to sleep a little earlier lately, it still takes a wake-up call to get these sluggards to budge in the morning. Lisa, Danielle, and Jason will be voting today.

Danielle looks chipper, not surprising as she's apparently about to vote to evict "the devil." She complains about needing a perm again and says that's why she wants Head of Household (of course, she's also talked about throwing the competition-she needs to keep those stories straight). Marcellas has a perennial complaint too--about Amy. He says that he came this close to kicking her out of his room last night. He prays she doesn't win Head of Household-just the occurrence Danielle is hoping for.

Roddy decides to make bacon and eggs for breakfast, apparently not nervous about his fate being decided this morning. For the second day in a row, Lisa and Danielle tease Jason about his occasional sleep-talking, an echo of the evicted Eric.

Over breakfast, the gang has a semi-serious discussion about marriage and commitment. Amy (naturally) talks about the ring and whatnot, but Danielle says that if you're focused too much on the wedding day itself, the marriage has no chance. Roddy, who has been labeled as commitment-phobic, talks about feeling pressured after just a few dates. Jason says that he came close to marrying his last serious girlfriend, but it's a major step for him. Lisa and Roddy are in favor of small, informal weddings. Amy says she'd happily sign a prenup, and would expect her fiancé to sign one as well. Roddy refers to the sacrifice Danielle and Gerry made to leave their families for the summer.

Voting ends, and the houseguests are outside in lockdown. The conversation moves from soap operas to supermodels to the now-infamous "movie game", Roddy's least favorite house pastime. With nothing left to lose now, he lies in the hammock grumbling to himself about the "torture" of the pop culture discussions.

With the lockdown over, they head back inside and find a watermelon sitting on the floor-no explanation given. Jason tends to the lizards, per the agreement made yesterday. Amy asks Roddy if she can have his gnome when he leaves (she's nominated too, but clearly feels she's staying). Roddy agrees. Danielle is chatting about her ideal salad. Roddy and Marcellas are outside tossing the ducks, a favorite hobby from earlier in the game that has diminished as more men have been evicted.

Danielle starts reading the Big Brother manual, and she's concerned about a public vote breaking a possible tie at game's end. That the way she's portrayed on TV might be a factor in the outcome bothers her (as well it should). Amy is apparently just now realizing that the feeds are uncensored and unedited (if not exactly the 24/7 that CBS bills them as). She sounds worried, perhaps recalling that her bare breasts have made a few appearances recently.

The houseguests are griping about boredom, and trust me when I say they aren't the only ones. Marcellas announces that he has never driven a car. Roddy suggests to Jason that they should shave their heads-anything would be an improvement over the current J look. Lisa fills condoms with water, and she and Amy turn them into phony breast implants as part of a Tonya impression. It's not very funny, let alone sexy.

They just had the rules out but may have missed reading part of it, because Amy takes out her mascara brush in the Head of Household room and uses it to write a note. She's immediately called to the Diary Room for this violation of regulations. She emerges looking chastened, and her new mood provokes some more under-the-breath criticism from Danielle, Jason, and Marcellas. Jason asks her to please not eat the remainder of their cheese.

The three of them talk about how the positions in the game have changed from the early weeks. Danielle says that Roddy's mistake, and that of the others, was getting into an alliance before they got to know anybody. There's some bashing of the evictees-and yes, Danielle, it's all on an uncensored, unedited feed that for all you know is being watched by former houseguests as you speak. They say that it isn't good to badmouth people as you're leaving, the way Chiara did. Danielle and Marcellas say they should have thrown the veto ceremony to Roddy-then they could have seen how willing he would have been to veto Amy.

Roddy says he has something very important he needs to say to Lisa, but it isn't really clear what he's talking about, let alone why it's so important. He appears to be saying something about Amy and how he hopes she doesn't think everything he tried to do for her in here was about the game. He tells her that the only valid reason for voting someone out should be dishonesty. Unfortunately, the rules of the game and the other houseguests disagree with him.

The houseguests eat a peaceful dinner, but afterward Amy snaps at Marcellas, for reasons unclear. When Amy starts telling the others about the incident later on, Marcellas criticizes her for making a private moment public-this rudeness is part of why I nominated you, he says.

When Amy heads inside later to give Roddy a haircut, Marcellas rips her in front of the others, saying that he's stood up for her in this game, and yet she'd rather spend time with a guy who doesn't care about her. Back in the bathroom, Amy rambles on about hair, saying that she let hers grow out because she found out that men don't like short-haired women.

Danielle and Jason are still thinking of throwing Head of Household, going out in the first or second round. The plan is still to let Amy win and have her nominate Marcellas, and even if Lisa won it wouldn't be so bad because she'd likely nominate him too. Jason figures there's little risk to him with Amy as Head of Household, because she would need a man around to flirt with.

Marcellas has some more harsh words for Amy about her alleged lack of respect for his feelings. She says she didn't tell the joke that he thinks she did. She packs dejectedly (which she must do as a nominee), and tells Roddy she really wants to go right now. Roddy says he wishes the others would have known that before they voted (how sensitive).

The houseguests, particularly Jason, struggle with an unusual game that Big Brother has given them. They're realizing they didn't do any of their usual Wednesday cleanup today. Roddy has some more of his flattery for Lisa-it can't help with the vote at this point; it might be reflexive (she's a "super girl" and all that).

At about midnight, Jason and Roddy sit out on the patio chatting for a while, Roddy with his cigar. The big gatherings we used to see at the hot tub or round the patio, the times when Roddy would hold forth on any manner of subjects, are gone now; but as he and Jason compliment each other, talking about what comes after the show and engaging in some seemingly heartfelt male bonding, we're reminded of those moments earlier in the game. Those were the days.
