Just Another Manic Monday - by Charlie Toft
Monday morning, Jason gets up first and has the bathroom to himself. So perhaps he'll see that his hair looks ridiculous combed straight down and he'll do something about it…no, he's wearing it that way again today. Go figure. Isolation takes its toll. Jason, Danielle, and Marcellas are up earlier than the others, and they take the opportunity to discuss the veto ceremony, scheduled for the noon hour. Danielle wants Marcellas to ask Amy not to make the big anti-Roddy speech she says she's been planning. It might antagonize Roddy and create hard feelings the way Gerry's veto speech did. After she joins breakfast, Amy says (jokingly) that she will commemorate Labor Day by not making the veto announcement today. Lisa wonders what the houseguests should do on September 11, if anything. Marcellas is still grumbling that Jason did better on the shopping spree than he did. It's the same querulous mood we see from him continually these days; when it's mentioned that he can stay in the Head of Household room next week if Amy wins it, he says he doesn't want Amy in his room anymore. Jason, trying to psych himself up for the possible eviction of his friend, complains about not being able to do anything without Roddy's permission. He says he wants Amy to leave next week-he wouldn't want her to win money. Amy is out on the patio, but Roddy only has a few minutes with her (he tells her to "take a risk") before it's Power of Veto time. When the feeds return, the lack of reaction from (most notably) Danielle suggests that once again, the veto has gone unused. There's nothing that would indicate Amy gave a dramatic speech either. Amy's conflicted feelings come to the fore as she's in tears and apologizing to Roddy. He isn't going to make her feel more comfortable, as he tells her the reasoning she gave in her speech was invalid. He expected her to hold to her long-ago deal to veto him (not making allowances for the fact that she'd be cutting her own throat to save him). Amy feels even worse after he's done with her and stays out back crying. Later, Danielle tells her that she did a good job, and Marcellas concurs and says she needs to stand up to the manipulation. The houseguests start in on laundry. Jason suggests that perhaps they should arrange for Roddy to get at least one vote, so it's not so bad for him. This is an unintentionally funny echo of the "sympathy vote" debate that erupted when Amy was evicted, and with only 3 people voting this go-round, there would seem to be potential for a real snafu-2 sympathy votes and you're looking at Roddy on Friday. Roddy interrupts his discussion of salmon migration (seriously!) to approach Amy and rake her over the coals some more. He says she paid too much attention to pressure tactics from others and didn't do what she knows was right. He tells her she's just shown the houseguests that she can't keep her word-contrasting this with his own courage in not promising to vote for her if he did get vetoed. This is the most heat anyone has ever gotten from a nominee for not using the veto, and Amy was a fellow nominee! Within minutes Roddy has turned his attention to Lisa, telling her he knows Amy made deals to keep her from using the veto. Flattery time: he says he loved their conversation the other night. Jason, Marcellas, and Danielle take note of Amy's tears and use that to confirm the reasons why they want Roddy to go. Marcellas bashes Amy some more, because she hasn't taken proper note of the warning in his nomination speech. Lazy afternoon time-well, not lazy for Jason, who's attempting to clean the pool (neglected since Gerry left); or for Lisa, on the elliptical trainer. But the others (except for the sleeping Roddy) get involved in one of their interminable movie discussions. Roddy comes outside while the grill heats up for dinner. Amy is around too, and it's an awkward scene. Roddy tells her that certain things in the house have disappointed him (hint, hint). She agrees that it can be emotionally draining. Inside, Danielle and Marcellas, whose moods seem to be deteriorating even as their positions in the game are strengthening, are lambasting Roddy for his lies and manipulations. Marcellas calls him a sociopath. Danielle crows that Roddy has been outsmarted by the "common people". They throw in a few comments about Amy's immaturity for good measure. There have already been warnings not to give her too much alcohol tonight. Outside awaiting dinner, Amy says she doesn't cry when she's drunk, she confesses things. Danielle asks Jason to let her know if she ever steps out of line, and he agrees (good luck there, J). She then tells Lisa that in her opinion, Roddy doesn't deserve a sympathy vote, but she won't stop Lisa from doing what she wants. Chatting quietly with Danielle, Amy says she understands why Marcellas criticized her in his speech. Danielle works the subject around to Roddy and how cruel he was to her. She tells Amy it's a game and she shouldn't be made to apologize. She asks Amy if she intends to nominate her, and Amy says she wouldn't; that if she does have to nominate again, she won't give a big speech-she'll simply say there was no one else to put up. Danielle says that Amy shouldn't think she's the next one out. Hmmm. We move into the evening, and it's a typical post-veto dull night…Lisa doesn't know what a praline is. A few days ago she wasn't sure what a plum was. No wonder she's so skinny. Conversation turns to buying cars and types of alcohol and cheese and Danielle's tooth-grinding. Jason turns down an offer to get a haircut, which may not be a good idea if you've seen his hair recently. Past midnight Amy is outside alone, with everyone else inside paying cards and chatting-and it has been good-natured if dull chat tonight. Roddy tells the Amy-falling-out-of-hammock story, saying that to keep from cracking up he just kept talking to the spot on the hammock that she had vacated. During pre-bedtime snacking, Jason admits he recently weighed 40 to 50 pounds heavier. These people talk about food a lot, a sign they're getting tired of Big Brother. Roddy and Lisa are under the impression that the game has a good month left to run, but it's actually just 3 more weeks. Roddy can get that filet mignon he keeps obsessing about soon-possibly very soon.
