Gerry Bashing - by Charlie Toft
Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock as the day begins…there's a lockdown of the outside (grass painting in progress?) and apparently the donuts have not arrived yet either. It's a double whammy for Gerry, who sits at the kitchen table and shuffles the cards. Within the hour, the other houseguests will be awakened and his fate will be decided. As donuts get consumed and voting begins, Roddy and Lisa talk in the Cot Room where they spent the night (Lisa was too frightened of Gerry to sleep in the Tiki Room). It's actually a pleasant, mildly flirtatious conversation touching on nostalgia and gift-giving, though Roddy's genuineness is always questionable. Amy, who doesn't have to vote (and was up very late to boot), has chosen to sleep in. The gang is eating muffins. Marcellas, who has been peevish for several days except when in the company of his gnome and his shark, sounds particularly overcome by their deliciousness. The mood is high among the non-nominees. For Gerry, who is gradually getting frozen out of house life, things may be different. He feeds the lizards later as Jason looks on, commenting that Jason had better not get evicted because no one else shows any interest in caring for them. Amy has been lying out in the sun (something she does sparingly), and is complaining that Gerry said she looked good spread out on the towel. Lisa and Danielle are disgusted by this remark, and by Gerry's alleged habit of leering at them and hanging out in the green chairs while they all shower. Lisa says that the Diary Room questioners have seemed surprised by her discomfort-maybe because it's mostly in her head? The bashing goes on: Gerry eats too much food. He's inconsiderate. His feet are disgusting. How come he won't put on a shirt? Danielle and Marcellas are still upset about Gerry's speech that announcing the vetoing of Marcellas's nomination-they think he only did because it created drama (and to be fair, Gerry has alluded to the veto being great, history-making TV numerous times). Amy and Roddy are lying in the sun together, with Roddy assuming an intimate, hair-stroking pose. Amy says she doesn't want to win the next Head of Household-she hopes Marcellas gets it. Jason and Marcellas start the day's frolic-hot tub to pool to outdoor shower. Now Jason is playing with that shark too. Who would have thought they'd take more interest in the shark than in the lizards? The houseguests continue to set new records for stupefyingly dull behavior. The most exciting part of the late afternoon involves Roddy making pizza bagels and continuing his efforts to flirt with Lisa. He wants her to teach him more sign language. Sign language could come in very handy in the house, when you think about it. Amy contributes a great one-liner: when Lisa asks her if she's taking out the trash, Amy retorts, "This is nothing compared to what I did last week." Gerry has spent much of the afternoon in the bedroom alone, playing cards a la Josh. Lisa continues to hang around with Roddy. She lapses into her immature voice on occasion. Lisa spends some time under a blanket and Amy complains about the cold. Roddy gives Gerry some advice on how to handle his remaining time in the house-always the campaigner. Danielle cooks a stew for dinner. Gerry offers a toast to the best group of people he could ever be trapped with. After dinner, the houseguests are temporarily transfixed by a spider building its web on the patio-all except Amy, an arachnophobe who wants someone to kill it. They call the spider "Charlotte". Out at the hot tub, Roddy mentions that the more bored you are, the more you sleep, which says all we need to know about the houseguests' schedule. He's chatting it up with Amy, and his alleged "playing" of her irritates Marcellas and Danielle, watching from inside. Roddy calls for an impromptu nighttime frolic, and despite everyone's gripes about the cold pool, Jason and Marcellas join him. Roddy wants to have a sunrise frolic one day. Amy is reminded about having to pack and she leaves the hot tub area, after which Danielle and Lisa discuss how Amy apparently wasn't wearing underwear, for Jason's "benefit". Jason, who didn't notice, is shocked. Now alone in the tub, Jason tells Danielle that he wants to tell Roddy that all their deals are off-Roddy can't very well expect to carry his deals with every houseguest all the way to the end of the game. He thinks Marcellas has a deal with Roddy too, and might actually nominate Amy if he wins Head of Household. Jason tells Danielle that he never feels manipulated by her, and while he does like Roddy, he thinks that Roddy acts like he has all the power in their relationship. He points out that Roddy was willing to sacrifice all of his original core alliance. Jason thinks in the end, he would be expendable too. They both have praise for the way Lisa has conducted herself since teaming up with them. After Jason and Danielle go inside, Roddy and Lisa head out to the patio (Roddy making a little remark about how long the two of them were alone in the tub). Roddy says it's a shame the way Gerry has been ostracized, and how there's been too much making fun of other houseguests in general. He hopes that artificial drama isn't a big part of the TV show. Roddy seems to have zeroed in on trying to make Lisa an ally, or at least a non-adversary. Feeling fairly confident about the future, Amy gets Marcellus's opinion on the next Head of Household. He believes Roddy is definitely getting nominated this time (famous last words), and that it might be good for Danielle or Jason to finally get nominated too, if only as decoys. He also thinks it might be good if either Roddy or Danielle finally wins Head of Household, to put an end to their rivalry once and for all. Danielle lets Marcellas know about Amy's alleged "show" of her non-underweared self in the hot tub earlier (which was not, from all indications, apparent on the feeds). Marcellas says that Amy doesn't play the game well, and he won't let his friendship with her hold him back. The two of them proceed to trash Roddy for supposedly turning his back on Chiara. They blast Roddy for the way he works Amy, expecting her to forget that he was the one who nominated her when she was evicted. Later on, Marcellas confronts Amy on the way Roddy works her over, warning her about all the "bodies in his wake." The houseguests busy themselves with some sort of word game, which means no more reasonable bedtime hour for the…I guess 50th night in a row? Gerry is sound asleep, though. Once his fine example of "early to bed, early to rise" is gone, what will become of the work ethic in the Big Brother house?
