Day 49 August 27, 2002 - Live Feed Updates  from BB3 Updates.com

Amy's Safe - by Charlie Toft

How cruel you are, Big Brother. Here Gerry is facing eviction, and you refuse to fix the elliptical trainer that has done so much to help him lose weight these last seven weeks. How can you deprive him? How can you deprive us?

It isn't helping that Jason is getting his longed-for "easy week", which may be great fun for the houseguests but has been a snoozer for feedwatchers. It doesn't help that Tuesday rivals Sunday as a notorious do-nothing day in the house. Gerry has been staying up later than usual, perhaps not wanting to give the houseguests an additional reason to get rid of him, and after getting up at his usual time he heads outside to nap on the red chaise longue on the patio. The donut-fetching duties are left to Jason on this morning.

It's unhealthy enough to sit and watch feeds all day, and the donut shots really aren't helping. Once again today, Jason heads back to his sanctuary after waking up. Gerry eventually comes in for some breakfast, then heads back outside. Whether it's the strain from nomination of from several weeks of social isolation is hard to tell, but Gerry begins to cry softly. He goes inside to compose himself and starts to play a one-man game of chess. It's almost noon.

Eventually everyone gets up. It looks like the day's big project will be washing the sheets, and maybe some more duck water polo. Yes, we lost a lot when we lost Josh and Chiara. The houseguests comment on how well they slept-dishonesty is the name of the game here, but few will doubt the truth of that remark. Roddy says it looks like a big day of nothing ahead.

Marcellas and Danielle comment on each other's loss of weight, and they question how it is that Amy seems to be gaining. The "action" has moved outdoors, to sunbathing. There's some more frolicking both in the pool (polo-like activity and roughhousing) and on the lawn. Roddy gets scratched up a bit. They decide to bring the lizards outside for some sun. When Gerry goes inside for a bit, the insults of him from the others come out.

It looks like they might be given alcohol tonight, and Roddy requests that Marcellas be in charge of doling it out, since Amy can be a problem in this area. Lisa tries to teach Roddy a little sign language. There's a good deal of Gerry-bashing in the bedroom later, with Danielle and Marcellas complaining yet again about how disgusting it is that he's cooking tonight; Jason breaks in to point out that the others will have to learn some of the things, like pool and hot tub care, that Gerry has been performing (mostly unappreciated).

Roddy tries to have a heart-to-heart with Amy later; she's been fretting about a Diary Room session. Marcellas likens their encounters to seeing Satan with a brain-damaged lamb. They grumble that Amy tells Roddy too much, and recap the various dirty deals that Roddy has allegedly made. Marcellas points out that Roddy is working her over right now, but he really wants Gerry to be the one to stay. Marcellas makes noises that he might have to start backing away from Amy, for strategic reasons and because she's just a bit much.

It's easy to assume that no one deserves to be spoken of the way these houseguests talk about Gerry. And yet, he brings so many problems on himself. Gerry asks Marcellas first if he likes flowers, and when the answer is no, asks him if he likes working with fabric.

It's now early evening, and they've broken out the white zinfandel. Marcellas proclaims that his fascination with the gnomes has ended. The elliptical trainer has been fixed and Gerry has wasted no time climbing aboard Gwen. Amy gets the idea to put rubber bands in Jason's increasingly long hair, which leaves him looking as much like Coolio as a white virgin can.

Marcellas announces that he'll be up before dawn tomorrow, ready to cast his vote (against Gerry, that is). Danielle rambles on about the wonderful "experience" of the Big Brother house, how being on peanut butter and jelly with someone is a bonding experience like no other (yes, she's had a little to drink). The group heads out to the hot tub, the temporary ban on its use having ended.

Jason says that they've been requested to wrap it up just a bit earlier tonight, since there's voting tomorrow. Danielle seems angry about a comment Gerry made to Lisa that they take to be sexual harassment. Lisa doesn't want the subject brought up at all. Coming from inside (he and Gerry have been ferrying hot water to the hot tub), Roddy warns the others that Gerry might be able to hear some of what they're saying about him. Jason complains that his head hurts and Amy takes it as a slam of her outré hairstyling. Marcellas is inside this whole time, vacuuming the Head of Household room.

Roddy feels out Marcellas on the possibility of voting out Amy. Marcellas is ready for him, bringing up his strong suspicion that Roddy has a deal with Gerry (Roddy has already admitted that it's hard to vote out someone you know won't nominate you). Roddy flat out accuses him of making up the story. He asks Marcellas if he still has faith in the promise he made in the hot tub (about the two of them taking it to the end-how many of these deals does Roddy have?) Marcellas has to admit that he does.

When Lisa comes in the bedroom later, Roddy repeats what Marcellas (now absent) has said, and Lisa tells him she believes that's the story Gerry has given Marcellas. Roddy insists the only contact he has with Gerry is playing chess. Marcellas visits Amy and says that he called Roddy on his deal with Gerry. He points out that Roddy always asks people to trust him, and yet his deals are with untrustworthy people-Josh, Chiara, Gerry. He predicts Roddy can't dare vote to evict Amy now, and she should survive unanimously.

Roddy sits in the hammock with Lisa later and tries to explain away some of this Gerry-related conversation. Lisa is pleasant as always, if that way she has where we're not quite sure if she's falling under Roddy's spell or not. Probably not, since she later tells Danielle she hates the way he attempts to work her over.

So much for going to bed early: at 1:30 Danielle is making macaroni and cheese, and after everyone more or less decides to go to bed at 3, Roddy, Amy, and Lisa head back out to the hot tub, where conversation is fairly inane. Lisa brings up her dislike of Gerry's alleged bad behavior again. When it is finally time for bed, Amy and Lisa both say that they are afraid to sleep in the Tiki Room with Gerry.

Afraid of Gerry? You wonder if the experience of being isolated in that house inevitably lends itself to scapegoating.
