Day 48 August 26, 2002 - Live Feed Updates  from BB3 Updates.com

Jason Stands Pat - by Charlie Toft

Monday, we found out if power-of-veto holder Jason would second-guess the nominations of Head of Household Jason. Also, we nearly have our first rush-hour head-on collision at the back door, as Gerry awakens and heads outside only a half hour after Roddy and Jason have gone to bed.

Gerry immediately goes back to sleep once outside. The indulgent Big Brother gives the houseguests a 10:30 wakeup call, with the veto meeting first and foremost on the day's agenda. Donut time! Danielle arises first, and she and Gerry kid around about making their everyday lives more like the house-peanut butter and jelly as punishments for the kids, etc. She mentions that her monthly rent is over $1200 a month, which puts her desire for a house into some perspective. Big Brother tries again to awaken the sluggards. And tries again. And again.

Danielle sings in the shower. She seems elated this morning, perhaps an overflow from winning America's Choice. She'd likely be even happier if Jason decides to use the veto. The veto meeting takes place a little after 12, as soon as everyone finally gets out of bed. When the feeds return (no live coverage this week), we see Gerry sitting alone on the patio, looking a little glum. Once again, the nominations have been left as is-the veto has turned out to be something less than the major twist the producers had planned. And the general tone of conversation the last two days indicates that Gerry will have to do something drastic to save himself.

Plans for the usual afternoon time-wasting commence. Marcellas and Jason are talking about a frolic. Roddy has plans for water polo using the ducks. He and Jason both wear caps and goggles for a quasi-uniform effect. The team of Jason and Lisa takes an early lead; then Roddy and Amy roar from behind. The score is then tied up, and eventually both teams lose track and stat fooling around randomly. An accusation is made that Jason tried to pull off Lisa's bikini top. Gerry referees as he often does for traditional duckball. After the game, Marcellas frolics with that ridiculous shark. Gerry strips down to his Speedos and does his infamous gorilla imitation, which prompts Marcellas to throw a towel over his head (and towels likely get thrown over monitors all over America). Roddy tells Lisa that Chiara was jealous of his alleged crush on her, and he had to watch that he didn't spend a lot of time around Lisa when Chiara was still in the house. Roddy, perhaps fishing for information, says that he knows Danielle wants him out of the game. Lisa plays dumb. They take up a chess game later.

Big Brother says that the windows need to be cleaned, to which Marcellas responds, "I came here to live in the man's house, not clean it."

Danielle has been looking for a good time to reveal her new plan to Lisa-about time someone around here started working a new scheme. She says that it might be a good idea for Lisa to vote to evict Amy, along with (presumably) Roddy. Both Danielle and Marcellas would vote to evict Gerry, as would tiebreaker Jason. The thinking here is to lull Roddy into a false sense of security by letting him think Lisa might be on his side. Lisa doesn't sound enthusiastic-she really doesn't want to risk Amy leaving, and thinks she'll look like a phony since people already know she's anti-Gerry.

Gerry and Amy discuss life after the house again, the latest in a surprisingly cordial series of talks they have had this week. Later Gerry comes up with some shrewd remarks while speaking to Roddy. He says that Jason is taking a big risk leaving Amy and Marcellas in the house as a pair, suggesting both would nominate him. Gerry even says he would probably nominate Marcellas if he stayed, because his "story arc" is almost over-Gerry loves TV industry-speak. He believes that he and Roddy are targets because they're smarter than all the others.

It's another dull night. Lisa spends forever in the bathroom curling her hair out of a lack of anything better to do. Danielle has fixed tacos for dinner, and prevents Amy from making hers until after everyone has gotten enough cheese for themselves. Lisa does all the dishes because she's in "the zone". Jason and Gerry discuss making moonshine, which might be more popular than painting gnomes but is unlikely to go over well with Arnie Shapiro.

They head outside for another night around the campfire, which is even less thrilling than Sunday night's gathering. Gerry discusses his first "date" with his current wife at the nude beach. Roddy says that they must look like a natural history exhibit at the museum, sitting still around the fire. Lisa reveals that she overheard Gerry and Josh scheming in the storage room way back in the first week of the game, something that Roddy hadn't known till now.

Gerry and Marcellas sit at the green chairs in the bathroom and talk-or rather, Gerry talks and Marcellas mostly shuffles cards. Gerry gives Marcellas his permission to vote against him this week. If he's looking for reassurance from Marcellas here, he doesn't get it. Gerry believes that the friendships in the house are worth more than first prize-we'll see if he still thinks that in 6 months. Marcellas admits that he sometimes can't wait for the game to end. He's amazed no one has pushed the "panic button" yet (essentially an "I quit" to Big Brother).

Marcellas points out that if Gerry is evicted, he'll be the third houseguest in a row who will be leaving in part because he's perceived as too close to Roddy. Gerry says he doesn't feel that they will all be close when the show is over, but Marcellas says how people were in the house doesn't really give you a true picture of them. He's fairly polite with Gerry, but afterwards, talking with Amy, he says that he worries how Gerry's family will react, since it's self-evident that he's the worst person there.

The houseguests (all but Gerry, that is) gather in the big bedroom at 3 AM or so and chat until they're exhausted. Jason is so worn out he falls asleep in what has been Marcellas's bed, so Marcellas joins Roddy in the big bed-a dream come true for at least one of them. It could be the most memorable moment in reality TV history…except everyone soon falls asleep. We deserved better as a reward for lasting through this dull day.
