America chooses Danielle - by Charlie Toft

Days in the Big Brother house tend to take on distinctive attributes. Wednesdays have tended to be carefree, after the voting ends. Tuesday nights have been known for their fights.

The houseguests have nothing scheduled for Sundays-no votes or competitions-so the "day of rest" has been just that. Man, can these people sleep when no one bothers to wake them up. Gerry manages to get out of bed at 9 long enough to go outside and fall asleep on one of the lounge chairs. He takes a stab at fixing the broken elliptical trainer, looking for a few more rides on Gwen before his possible eviction, but couldn't stay awake. He heads inside for a lockdown and falls asleep on the couch. Danielle and Marcellas each get up and head to the bathroom, then seem to think better of this whole "awake" thing and head back to bed. The donuts sit forlornly in the storage room.

At noon a voice finally rings out that it's time to face the day. Jason is perhaps not ready to face it yet, as he plays solitaire in his room. Danielle and Gerry have a fairly cordial conversation outdoors. Gerry makes reference to how tough the game is getting. Danielle says that an experience like this makes her realize how lucky she is to have her family. Gerry calls Roddy "an agnostic with ethics." There's some talk about movies and Shakespeare. The one thing we don't hear is any discussion of strategy, strange since both love to scheme. Is Gerry just giving up on the game?

At 2 PM Roddy, Lisa, and Amy have still not appeared on the scene. Gerry keeps trying to bring up the subject of a campfire tonight, to a general lack of interest. Marcellas sunbathes next to his shark. Jason and Amy discuss how their grandparents will be wondering how they can be so comfortable with sleeping and showering with the opposite sex present. Amy says that her plan for the day is removing nail polish, showering, and applying nail polish. It's a strong contender for dullest day in Big Brother history, if not world history.

Mass sunbathing. Marcellas and Amy have a silly talk wherein they discuss what Gerry does at night, since Lisa supposedly thinks he isn't sleeping in the room with them. Jason announces that it's time for America's Choice, and everyone rushes inside. Danielle can't even look…the names are slowly eliminated from the screen, leaving only Danielle's. The houseguests cheer her good fortune, as no one wanted this win more.

Danielle hears from her parents, her brother, her husband, and her daughters. Mom wonders what's the matter with her hair (moms!) Her husband, Javier, reads an emotional letter he wrote to her. The daughters are both exceedingly cute. Danielle tears up and thanks America for choosing her. Jason and Gerry point out that viewers are paying attention, choosing the houseguests who "needed it" most.

Danielle looks rejuvenated, but not so carefree that she can't ask Jason's opinion on where he thinks she stands with Roddy. She thinks that Roddy's efforts to win over Lisa won't work, since she hasn't forgotten his work to get her evicted. Gerry talks cordially with Amy. He still has a swelled head about his vetoing of Marcellus's nomination way back when, saying that it changed the game completely. Both of them are looking forward to opportunities outside the house, with Gerry saying he wants to hold a fundraiser for his school and invite the houseguests.

As preparations for dinner get under way, Danielle tells Lisa that she believes people underestimated her at first, but the vetoing of Marcellas made it a new game for her. They both say they won't fall for any of Roddy's sweet talk. Danielle says she'd like it arranged so the eviction vote is not 2-2, forcing Jason to make a painful choice (though it seems clear right now he'd prefer Gerry leave). She says it's too bad her daughter isn't closer to Jason in age (how sweet). Danielle implies to Lisa that she would favor her over Marcellas if such a choice became necessary later.

Marcellas snaps at Amy later when she tries to interrupt his dishwashing. She sulks around the house for a while and the two of them end up in separate rooms for a change. The others are playing cards and settling in for what's shaping up as a dull finish to a dull day. By 10:30 Marcellas is already asleep, after having been awake for maybe 9 hours.

The gang heads outside later, lights the "campfire" in the grill, and just chats on and on about the usual-movies, how they wound up on the show, etc. It's amazingly dull. There are moments when it appears Roddy will chew through his lower lip, he's obviously bored silly.

Marcellas finally gets out of bed (it's now after midnight), but is still complaining about Amy to Danielle. He now wishes they hadn't bent to Amy's wishes with the eviction of Chiara-he says Amy just wanted to be the center of attention. Danielle basically agrees. They imply that she'll likely get nominated again next week and might not mind going, since it will have been 3 extra weeks at that point. Both agree, though, that Gerry has to go now. Thus begins a new, long round of Gerry-bashing, touching on how pompous and inconsiderate he is (he left his dishes for Marcellas to wash).

Roddy and Jason outlast everyone tonight, staying up past 6 AM and watching the sunrise, a new Big Brother 3 record for insomnia not counting the time Lori stayed up all night. Roddy flatters him by saying that he can't really lose now. Jason says that he'll vote to evict Gerry if it comes to a tie, and Amy should go the week after, leaving a strong final five. Jason is quite friendly and apparently sincere with Roddy, leading you to wonder just where his loyalties might be in a hypothetical endgame.

I'll leave off here since Gerry will be getting up in a few minutes, and that's for the Monday recap.
