Day 45 August 23, 2002 - Live Feed Updates  from BB3 Updates.com

Roddy does a number on Jason - by Charlie Toft

Jason becomes the latest houseguest to enjoy the privilege of Head of Household privacy (Danielle is the only remaining player who has never held the honor). Early Friday morning, he sits alone and listens to his music, sucking it up for what promises to be a difficult day-all Heads of Household claim they hate making nominations for eviction, but tenderhearted Jason might be the one who truly means it the most.

Gerry and Marcellas both make a big deal out of Jason now being in the spotlight, with the cameras following him around. After morning cleanup-hurried through because a food competition is pending-Jason gives Danielle an early indicator of his nomination plans. He's thinking Roddy for one nominee, and either Gerry or Amy for the other, but he's not sure. He asks Danielle, how about if I make a deal with Roddy: I don't nominate you now, and you promise not to nominate me and Danielle? She thinks that's a bad idea, because among other things it implies that they're allied.

She warns Jason that Roddy is out to get him-he's been saying ever since Jason voted to evict Eric that he can't be trusted. Danielle suggests that he make a deal with Gerry-pretty much mandatory advice for a Head of Household anymore. Jason says he'll ask Roddy how many deals he has going-Roddy's mutual no-nomination deal with Danielle is one of the reasons she's so eager to see him nominated now-and confront him on the anti-Jason smear campaign he's allegedly been running. But Jason also wants to get advice from every houseguest before making his decision, a sign he really is troubled.

The feeds are off and on throughout the food competition, though we can tell that it involves an obstacle course with prop donuts. The houseguests are only partially successful, winning half of their available food for the week. Amy is accepting blame for supposedly not doing well on her segment of the course. The "mystery prize" is kindly provided by Dunkin' Donuts, to which Gerry responds by saying they won't be able to make any more Krrispy Kreme references.

The houseguests head inside to commence their sugar high. As with the chairs yesterday, they notice that an eighth coffee mug has been set out by Big Brother, and they speculate again about a possible visitor. The card games are starting back up; there will be little for most of them to do before the nominations.

Jason re-commences his chats with the other houseguests, beginning with Amy. She is aware of the danger she is in-Operation Revolving Door and all that. She tells Jason that she feels she'd likely go if she were nominated. Amy suggests Gerry as a possible nominee-he'd be a safe choice and it wouldn't stress anybody to vote him out. She says that Danielle would be a bad decoy to put up with Gerry, because she's perceived as powerful and would likely go instead. Amy vents a little about the pressure Danielle put on her the preceding week. She concludes by telling Jason that both she and Marcellas would want to keep him around because he's pleasant.

Lisa is the next visitor to Jason. She is (as usual) not terribly forthcoming, though she does remind Jason that Roddy is still upset about the eviction of Eric. Danielle breaks in and says she needs a quick word with him. Jason tells her he's definitely now leaning towards nominating Roddy and Amy, and making a "do not use veto" deal with Gerry.

It's Marcellas's turn next, and he is blunt about wanting Gerry nominated. He says his only deal is the loose one he has with both Danielle and Jason. Marcellas says he isn't personally bothered by Roddy, but he worries about his influence over others. He admits that Danielle can be irritating but says he'd never nominate her.

Two houseguests have suggested Gerry as the obvious choice, but Gerry has his own ideas about who the easy nominee would be-Amy. Jason asks him if he would use the veto if it were Roddy and Amy nominated, and Gerry says he doubts it.

And then, it's time for Roddy. Jason begins coyly, saying that he's really thinking about nominating Gerry and Amy, but there are some things he's been hearing that are troubling: such as, how you've been dissing me to the other houseguests. If Roddy is surprised by Jason's impudence, he recovers and starts an aggressive defense of himself, saying that he's never told anyone he couldn't trust Jason and that he's long since forgiven him for the Eric "mistake". Roddy insists that he has no power left, regardless of what people think. All his allies from when Roddy made his initial deal with Jason the second week-Eric, Josh, Chiara-all gone now. He reminds Jason that he's had to protect him, such as when Gerry wanted to nominate him.

Jason says that he knows he's being manipulated and that Roddy is taking advantage of their friendship to get Jason out of thinking about the game, but it seems he is weakening-he's no match for Roddy in a glibness face-off. Roddy presents a version of his "it's better to play with the strong than the weak" argument he used a month ago when Marcellas was Head of Household. You need to have people in here at the end who you can trust, and vice versa. And I trust you, Roddy tells Jason.

How did Roddy's steamrollering work? Jason is now telling Danielle that he's probably going to spare the Rod. Danielle says that she'll support his decision, but immediately adds that Roddy will nominate her for sure. And if either he or Lisa gets nominated with her, she might not have the 2 votes she would need to be saved. Jason is indecisive, only moments before a decision is due. Danielle says she would nominate Gerry and Amy, because she can't nominate Roddy. Her fear is that this week will be their last chance to nail him. Jason says his dilemma is that he trusts Danielle, but he trusts Roddy equally.

Following his talk with Jason, Roddy tells Lisa that he thinks his association with Chiara is part of hiss current problem (nice loyalty there). Danielle reminds Marcellas that he'll have to be careful of what he reveals to Amy from now on, since she's a direct conduit to Roddy.

When the feeds return after the nominations, Jason explains his decision to nominate Gerry and Amy to Danielle. He says that Chiara asked him to protect Roddy this first week, and he agreed. Jason gives his rationale: Gerry will be the one to go this week, and his vague loyalties make him a threat too. If Danielle is angry or merely unconvinced, she does not let on.

Big Brother has provided the houseguests with pizza, a cookie cake, and champagne, and the mood is relatively festive. Neither nominee seems terribly downcast, as both seem to feel they will be safe. Amy is drunk before long.

The houseguests find some garden gnomes in the backyard, and are told they each need to adopt one and decorate it. When finished, they are to place them in the storage room and await further instructions. The painting of gnomes, while a novelty for the houseguests, is not the sort of thing that is going to keep people watching the feeds on a Friday night.

As they work on the gnomes, Marcellas tells Jason he hopes that letting Roddy off the hook doesn't come back to bite them. Danielle, who is crying softly as she listens to music in the Head of Household room, must be thinking similar thoughts.
