Crow and Vultures - by Charlie Toft
Tuesday is interesting because all of us know something the houseguests don't: they have a fun little surprise coming tonight. Anyone who tried to watch got a surprise of their own in terms of watchability, but that's another story. Last night was a very late night for almost everyone-even Gerry has been staying up later recently-so the early action in the house comes from the workers setting up in the backyard for tonight's concert. Perhaps mindful that the houseguests won't be happy about being barred from outside all day, Big Brother is letting them sleep in. Jason finally tumbles out of bed at 11:30 and walks into the kitchen for some water. He asks Big Brother not to bother turning the lights on-he wants to go back to sleep-but he's turned down and the lights are turned up. Jason feeds the lizards; they're being fed much later than usual and their scratching helped wake him up. There's a cricket loose in the house somewhere and Jason goes off to look for it before it gets into food. By 1 PM it's still only Gerry and Danielle who have joined Jason. They speculate that whatever is in store for tonight must be pretty big, since they can't peek outside at all and the noise levels indicate there are a lot of people out there. In the same spirit as desperate parents hauling games out of the closet on rainy days, the houseguests have been left with doodads to occupy their time-henna tattoos, supplies for tie dye, and Legos. Gerry and Jason seem particularly excited about the Legos-Gerry wants to make a motorcycle. Everyone else finally gets up and "breakfast" is being cooked. Marcellas has a strange conversation with Chiara in which he says that she'll understand certain things once she leaves the house and sees the tapes. He tells her she needs to pay attention to where rumors about him are coming from. This might point to Danielle, but it's hard to say. Marcellas adds that he would not go along with Amy out of loyalty if he really disagreed with her thinking. Is it possible he would vote to evict Roddy? While Jason and Gerry continue playing with the Legos, the women set up for tie dye in the kitchen. Chiara and Lisa start in on the body tattoos later. They've already burned through half the afternoon and spirits are fairly high. At one point Danielle starts singing a few lines from Sheryl Crow's "All I Wanna Do". Roddy tells Chiara that he feels the "vultures" will take the opportunity to get rid of him this time. She has a tattoo on her very lower back, but says she'd probably never get a permanent one because it would look trashy. Amy has interjected herself into the Lego area and seems to really be into it. Marcellas and Danielle discuss the importance of taking care of your money-Marcellas has seen so many models waste what they've made. Danielle is singing more than ever today, which causes a good many feed interruptions. At one point she jumps up on the kitchen island and dances while Roddy sings. Chiara drops in and says the Diary Room has been asking her whether she has low self-esteem, as well as questions about how Danielle has been playing the game. Anticipation is building as the dinner hour approaches. Jason mentions that he though he heard someone tuning a guitar outside. There are long stretches where the feed heads to Front of the House land, and when it returns the houseguests are getting dressed up, as if they've been told to prepare for something special. Marcellas is offering his shirts to the fashion-challenged men. He's smart enough to know whatever is happening is going to be on TV, so they might as well look good. Once they're ready, the houseguests are told to go into the small bedroom for a brief lockdown. Jason wonders out loud if they've maybe set up a big stage out back. It's now nearing an hour past the scheduled 7 PM Pacific starting time, and the feeds are straining under the load tonight-even those with non-dialup access. Finally the houseguests are told there will be a puzzle to solve-they have to find 18 CD cases scattered throughout the house and assemble a puzzle with them in order to claim their "luxury prize". If they fail, the backyard will be off limits till the morning. The houseguests start ransacking the place, and gradually the nature of the prize becomes clear as he words "Sheryl Crow" become visible on the puzzle. As they rush towards the door, "All I Wanna Do" begins to play. There's cheering and dancing. The houseguests are seeing someone else for the first time in 6 weeks, and it's a thrill. Sheryl announces that they will continue until they get voted out, and breaks into "Soak Up The Sun". Afterwards she says it's like playing a wedding, and starts her finale, "Steve McQueen". Yes, it's only a 3-song concert, and the feeds may have held up for the average viewer to see one (changing feeds proved to be hazardous indeed). She has only a few minutes for small talk with the starstruck houseguests before hitting the road. The houseguests are genuinely exhilarated afterwards-Roddy said they would have been thrilled to see John Tesh, and it was Sheryl Crow!--and they've been provided some chocolate and chips with salsa to snack on for good measure. It's pointed out that she mentioned Gerry by name, and there's speculation that he may be a little more popular on the outside. Marcellas says he's finished with complaining now, calling the houseguests "the most spoiled cast in reality show history." Danielle is walking around in a daze saying "That was Sheryl Crow!" Chiara tries snuggling with Roddy later, reminding him that they are down to their final 2 nights together, but he seems bored and/or tired. He does pause to mention that Sheryl Crow appeared to be staring at him. Well Roddy, if it makes you feel any better… She consoles herself later with a visit to her house "girlfriends" Lisa and Danielle, who she praises for providing her with emotional sustenance in the house. There's still time for scheming before bed (not surprising considering "bed" anymore comes after 4 AM). Marcellas, who seems to sway back and forth depending on who he talked to last, is asking Danielle what everyone has decided to do in regard to the eviction. He seems to have come around to the idea that Roddy has to go now, but he's wondering if Amy needs to be told. There's a danger she'll freak, or maybe even run to Roddy. Later on with Amy, Marcellas gently brings up the subject of Roddy, how this may be their last chance to get rid of him. Amy isn't hearing it. Marcellas wants to know why she is so insistent on keeping Roddy, and she says it's not that-she just wants Chiara out that much. Amy angrily announces that she's finished discussing game strategy or her voting plans. She rails against Danielle for breaking her word to evict Chiara. Amy storms out of the Head of Household room to vent in the Diary Room, and does so in full view of Roddy and Chiara. After the session, Amy manages to get back to her room without Roddy accosting her, but Marcellas tells her that she needs to see Danielle in the morning and let her know that her plan is in the open and that Amy expects her to keep her word. It's nearly 5 AM at this point, and voting is only a few hours away. It should be quite an interesting morning.
