Day 41 August 19, 2002 - Live Feed Updates  from BB3 Updates.com

Roddy and Chiara prepare for the end - by Charlie Toft

It's back to normal on Monday morning, as Gerry has the house and yard to himself for a substantial length of time. As he rides "Gwen", hoses off his shirt, and enters the hot tub (pre-shower), we look for signs that he is feeling the terrible burden that awaits him-the burden of considering whether to use the veto.

Who's kidding who? The houseguests hardly discuss the veto anymore, though the veto competitions and meetings remain staples of CBS's Big Brother programming. And from the sweet time the houseguests take getting out of bed after their 10:30 wakeup call, it seems no one is very anxious about Gerry's decision, which will be announced as soon as everyone straightens up.

Conversation in these early waking hours concerns relationships, the importance of family, and waiting to get married. Danielle makes another not-very-subtle reference to needing a house, talking about wanting the white picket fence. Chiara only has one topic of conversation these days-the unfairness of Big Brother-and gives Gerry a mouthful on that subject. She complains about Amy's frequent wearing of her Head of Household bathrobe.

For the first time, the veto ceremony is covered today on the live feeds. They're about as exciting as any other feed dominated by Gerry's presence. He asks Roddy and Chiara to make the cases for being vetoed, but Roddy says he doesn't think Gerry should use the power and Chiara basically agrees. He says all right-I'm not using it. The meeting is over just like that, no speech or anything.

Roddy and Chiara are discussing the game with Danielle later, when Roddy suddenly asks her about the move last week to evict him instead of Josh. Danielle is curious how he knew about that, and Roddy says that Marcellas told him. She tries not to look rattled. Chiara actually says that eviction votes shouldn't be about strategy, to which Danielle sensibly responds, "It's a game, Chiara."

Roddy, who has complained before that Danielle is hard to read, proceeds to interrogate her on what she would do in different hypothetical eviction and nomination scenarios. He seems to want to know what she'd do if she were ever Head of Household, and refers vaguely to her relationship with Jason. She denies that she is spearheading the move to get rid of him, but tells him that she isn't included in any of his scheming. Chiara and Roddy tell her that Jason lied to them about keeping Eric; Danielle pretends to be surprised. The conversation is an interesting give-and-take between the house's two leading schemers.

Danielle heads off to give Lisa the news: Marcellas is talking to Roddy, and if Roddy stays he'll be coming after Jason. Roddy's talk has accomplished one thing: temporarily at least, Danielle has moved her focus away from the current nominees and on to Marcellas. She tells Lisa that he'll need to go soon. Lisa says she'll feel Marcellas out for information. They are still talking about evicting Chiara.

Chiara and Roddy are talking over what they expect to happen with the vote. Chiara expects votes to break down on gender lines, with Gerry being the swing vote. Roddy thinks Jason will vote to evict him, but Chiara says she's been telling Jason and Gerry to vote her out. She says her goal, should she stay, is getting rid of Marcellas. Chiara urges Roddy to move closer to Danielle if he stays in.

Amy and Gerry complain that the food they've been given is going bad too soon. Chiara is reading tarot cards, which keeps her mind off the epic unfairness of Big Brother for at least a few minutes. Jason has found out that there will be an all-day lockdown tomorrow while something is set up in the backyard. Big Brother has said something vague about keeping them entertained. There's some speculation that this will be a luxury competition, perhaps the long-awaited win-a-car challenge. They are also getting a new deck of cards, which has been a frequent request in recent days.

The house settles into the rut we often see after the veto competition ends. Jason helps Amy prepare dinner. While chatting about her beloved dog Bucky, Amy drops an onion on the floor, and since neither Danielle nor Marcellas are around, she just rinses it off and uses it. Jason and Amy are getting along well tonight.

Chiara says she'll miss everyone in the house, to which Danielle answers "Don't say that." Roddy interjects that he thinks he'll be the one leaving, and Danielle says "You don't say that either." There's a card game outside that no one is paying much attention to. After dinner the women break out the alcohol again, which has the potential of livening up a very dull day. Roddy and Gerry have a wide-ranging chat about debunking the paranormal-this at the same time Chiara is continuing to conduct tarot readings.

Marcellas pulls Lisa aside to air some of his suspicions about Danielle. He's upset about her continuing effort to get rid of Roddy, and thinks she's spreading rumors about his involvement with Roddy. He continues to deny this, and says that he suspects Roddy is playing him but that Chiara is just more deserving of going now. Marcellas's main goal is still the nomination of Gerry.

But then, without warning, Marcellas seems to have had a change of heart, telling Lisa and Danielle that Roddy needs to go. He's questioning just how firm their promise to Amy that they would unload Chiara really is. It would be a bad thing to let Roddy off the hook a second straight week, he says; and besides, Roddy looks to be gunning for Jason. Danielle says she just wants to know what everyone has decided.

Several days (weeks?) worth of frustration boils over in the hammock, as Roddy tells Chiara that she's embarrassed him in the house numerous times, and done things he never would have put up with outside the house. People are yelling at the houseguests over the wall, adding to the overall tension (at first they wonder if it's Josh). As she usually does when Roddy criticizes her, Chiara apologizes and admits she's been immature.

Marcellas tells Jason later on that he would have his support if he were to get nominated, even against Amy. Gerry does some beatnik poetry. And Jason and Danielle join Amy in the Head of Household room for conversation that lasts far into the morning again.

This is fairly late in the week for the identity of the likely evictee to be so unsettled. Perhaps Tuesday fight night will provide some clues.
