Chiara's Losing It - by Charlie Toft
Feedwatchers all across the Big Brother universe joined with Gerry in wishing him and his wife a happy anniversary on Saturday. "I love you and I miss you," he says to the camera after waking up Saturday morning. "I'm trying to hold on and win this." Wasn't that sweet? Now on to the backbiting! Jason is sounding like he's developed a spine overnight. It isn't easy to hear his scheming with Danielle-the Dani alliance has raised whispering to an art form-but he's heard to tell Danielle that he's ready to start playing the game, and if he loses Chiara's and Roddy's vote in the end, then so be it. Gerry is happy to have someone to talk to, and he drones on about the relationship of World War II to the house. He and Danielle comment some on Josh and his fatal mistakes. Jason, usually willing to look for the good in people, says Josh was probably acting that way out of a misguided strategy, and that he must have some hidden positive qualities to be able to land such a great girlfriend. But if today is like most nomination days, it will be mostly killing time until Amy has her announcement. Upon waking up, Amy says she feels upbeat. She feels confident enough to tell a story about mixing a Xanax with champagne and falling asleep in a Mexico airport. Not to be overshadowed, Chiara says she was both drunk and high when flying out to California for the show. Chiara and Roddy are out in the hammock in the early afternoon, trying to prepare for nominations. Roddy says that he knows that his allies aren't in charge anymore, and he just wants to relax, if it is to be his last week. Chiara is not one to relax. She vents that she's hated Amy from Day One, and that it was unfair for her not to be able to compete for Head of Household with her biggest enemy returned to the house. She thinks she might be able to survive a nomination though, since she feels she'd start out with Danielle and Roddy's vote for sure (the idea that Roddy might be nominated too apparently hasn't occurred to her). Chiara even suggests that bringing Amy back may mean that CBS is out to get her. Lisa, by contrast, has kind words for Amy and for Gerry. Amy may be starting to get nervous; she approaches Danielle only minutes before the meeting is slated to begin and says he may want to "switch things up." Danielle reassures her that she's doing fine. Chiara hangs around Amy for a while, but the Head of Household goes off on a long story about an ex-boyfriend. Chiara is furious-Amy won't have a conversation with you unless you ask her questions, she whines to Roddy. The self pity is a-flowin' today. My brother warned me about the sort of people that go in this show, Chiara rants. It's going to be all white trash after I leave, she continues, adding that she had hoped to find some humanity here (on Big Brother?) Nominations occur just past 4 PM, and from the aftermath it appears to have gotten emotional. Amy is in tears in her room, being comforted by Marcellas, who tells her that anyone else would likely have had the same two nominees, and that her speech was perfect. Amy says she couldn't stab Jason in the back (after he was the runner-up in the Head of Household contest). Chiara is out in the hammock, also crying. Her fellow nominee Roddy is fairly stoic-of course, he went through this just last week, and is again paired with someone who, to put it mildly, is not handling the pressure well. Chiara is obsessed with the idea that her nomination is "unfair". Lisa has a vague conversation with Danielle, and then heads out to the hammock. Roddy is finally getting a little angry. He reminds Lisa how close they were to getting Eric back (does he not know she voted against Eric coming back?) He can't understand how someone like Gerry can be getting a free ride, and complains about Danielle playing on the sympathies of the other houseguests to avoid nomination. He also asks Lisa to please keep the conversation between them-too late! Lisa relates some of these remarks to Marcellas, who is guessing that Roddy believes he will survive this week and is already trying to point at new targets for next week. He's not pleased that Roddy has told her that he (Marcellas) and Gerry are allies. But he's looking toward evicting Chiara for now, since she has told more blatant lies (left unsaid is that she is also Amy's primary target). For her part, Lisa seems to be fishing a bit, perhaps suspecting that Marcellas is getting too close to Roddy. Chiara is babbling. She tells Danielle and Jason that they should just go ahead and vote for her since she doesn't want to be responsible for Roddy leaving. She grumbles about Jason letting them down. She accuses Roddy of campaigning for himself to Lisa. Later, while everyone else is exercising, Lisa and Chiara engage in a little bonding--Lisa once again covering up her true feelings well. Roddy engages in some self-pity of his own while talking to Danielle, saying that he's being punished for trying to play the game ethically. In a shot across the bow, he tells her that the people who stay in the house may pay a price for keeping the Gerry's of the world hanging around. Danielle and Lisa prepare dinner after yesterday's peanut butter and jelly interlude. Chiara is still mad-fortunately it's only 5 days between nomination and eviction this week. She reminds Roddy that he was the one who nominated Amy when she got evicted, and now here Chiara is feeling the repercussions. Danielle warns her not to be like Josh-moping with the lizards all week. She tries to assure Chiara that she might work out a way for her to stay. She has the advantage of being able to concentrate on cooking as Chiara rambles on and on. Amy looks bright and cheery after her post-nomination tears. Lisa has given Chiara the advice to try and relax and spend time with Roddy this week, the way she did with Eric when the two of them were nominated. After dinner, Lisa and Danielle scheme. They now seem to have decided to make a run at evicting Roddy. They're both concerned about the reaction of Amy and Marcellas, and about revenge from Chiara if she stays in the house. Amy tells Jason and Marcellas that Chiara was the only person whose pre-nomination pitch to her had an implied threat in it. But maybe Chiara is getting back to normal now-she's in the hot tub talking about sex. All is well with the world. Amy is yammering about her dog and making up funny song lyrics with Marcellas. And Roddy, apparently trying to fit in with pop culture talk after all, presents his theories on Scooby-Doo during hot tub time. He tells Gerry and Jason later that the game is the important thing, and not the winning. Gerry calls it very Zen, which no doubt greatly pleases Roddy. Can the Zen master survive a second straight week of being nominated? And can Chiara not lose it completely?
