Amy's in the Game - by Charlie Toft
It’s the halfway point of Big Brother 3. Unlike previous Heads of Households, Amy will have an entire day of being pulled in every conceivable direction before she makers her nominations. No mercy for the weary—despite the late hours kept the previous night, Big Brother has a 9:45 wake-up call for an early food and luxury competition. Amy has had less sleep than anyone but looks bouncy and happy as she applies her makeup. Marcellas has his first real chance to give Amy his version of the past two weeks in the house, and to put forward who he thinks ought to be nominated. He says that Roddy has had others do his dirty work for him, and that Chiara tried to stab Lisa in the back. Amy says that she tried so hard for head of Household because she knew about Operation Revolving Door—she seems to suggest she was told by her handlers. She says she already has her nomination speech written, and makes it clear that Chiara is her real target. Amy presides over the food competition, telling the houseguests they must change into special clothes: the women have bikini tops and sarongs and the men, to their horror, are assigned purple Speedos. Everyone urges Gerry to please put on a shirt, but he doesn’t. They have to retrieve food vouchers in a wind chamber and stuff them in their minimal clothes; they are each assigned a day of the week, and fewer than 10 vouchers retrieved means the house will eat peanut butter and jelly for that day. There are also money vouchers which they may use to send someone on the outside a gift. Chiara and Roddy fail to collect the required number of vouchers, but Amy is allowed to compete and makes up for Roddy’s misplay. A total of $220 is collected and the houseguests agree to use it to buy a gift for Gerry’s anniversary (which is tomorrow). Danielle suggests some of the money be held back to send cards to their respective families. Amy, still in perky mode, offers to give Roddy a haircut. Marcellas uses his clippers to give Roddy a neck shave. Jason takes a turn in the barber chair next. Chiara looks a little gloomy, whether because of her failure in the competition or lingering bitterness over Amy, it’s hard to say. She says she’s fat (hardly) and needs to exercise. Her mood doesn’t improve when Roddy throws her in the pool. Chiara is depressed. She tells Roddy how unfair it is that Amy is back, and he points out that she was perfectly situated to win an endurance contest for Head of Household. She says it would be unfair” for Amy to nominate her after the good work she did getting rid of Josh, and being willing to put Roddy at risk in the process. She once again gives Roddy a hard time about jumping out of the tub as it filled with squid. Roddy thinks he could be put up this week, but says he suspects Gerry might finally get nominated. Chiara heads inside to tell Lisa that it would not be in Amy’s “best interest” to nominate her and Roddy, but says almost in the next breath that she will nominate Amy next week if she has the chance. At about the same moment, Danielle is trying to sell Amy on nominating Roddy, suggesting that Operation Revolving Door was his idea. But Marcellas has apparently been pushing for Gerry to be nominated with Chiara. Danielle complains to Lisa that Marcellas might have a deal with Roddy, but that the two of them plus Jason could evict Roddy anyway. Chiara pressures Danielle to tell her what she knows, but Danielle is keeping her lips sealed. Chiara says that Danielle can “tell your pretty little friend” (what is she, the Wicked Witch of the West?) that the house will be a living hell if she doesn’t nominate Gerry—or rather, nominates both her and Roddy. Chiara is almost mute with fury at the unfairness of Amy’s return. The calmer Roddy has gone directly to Amy for info, but the Head of Household isn’t talking, though she does assure Roddy she’s not one for revenge. Amy isn’t the most careful game player, though—she lets out that she knows who Marcellas and Danielle would probably end up voting for. Roddy’s main strategy here seems to be selling Chiara out and suggesting anybody-but-Roddy (mostly Danielle) as the second nominee. Amy mentions Jason as a potential nominee, and Roddy is quick to remind her that Jason has a crush on Chiara—how much can anyone really trust that guy? Roddy suggests that she cut one of those famous one-week deals with Gerry. Amy seeks out Gerry and tells him it’s “the devil against the saint”, and will he promise to vote to evict Chiara and not Jason? Gerry agrees, no doubt stunned that he’s off the hook yet again. Later on, Marcellas reminds Amy that Roddy might be able to veto Chiara’s nomination, a contingency Amy admits she hadn’t considered. He’s gently trying to talk her out of the Jason idea but says he will support her. Chiara then pops in, telling Amy again, in semi-threatening language, that she might have problems if she does not nominate Gerry. Amy again tells her she’s not “revengeful”. Assuming that he has influence with Amy, Chiara then makes he case to Marcellas. He tells her that what Amy is thinking of doing makes sense to Amy, and he’s agreed to support her. Eventually, Danielle has her turn with Amy. She also reminds Amy that she doesn’t have a good Plan B if Chiara’s nomination gets vetoed. Danielle eventually tells Amy she’ll have her support, but that she’s taking a risk. The houseguests tend to a developing ant situation in the kitchen. Later, Chiara vents to Roddy, saying that she knows Marcellas is really the power behind the throne and that he’s still out for revenge for Week One. Roddy is more calm about the possible danger they are in. Roddy is always working a new angle though, and has a conversation with Lisa later where he subtly suggests they might want to team up later if Chiara is to leave. The houseguests have another very late night—it must be something about Amy coming back. Roddy and Gerry natter on long into the night. Out in the hammock, Danielle tells Jason that she wants Lisa to join them in the final three—Marcellas’s loyalties look a little shaky to her right now.
