Josh Gets Ready to Exit - by Charlie Toft
The Tuesday blowout seems to have ended any chance of a stunning upset by Josh in this week’s eviction vote. But the houseguests still have to make it official, and Big Brother wakes them up early so they can get to the polls on time. Most of them seem to have had about 7 hours of sleep, but they still stumble around in the morning like 6-year olds on the first day of school. Marcellas seems peevish this morning, talking negatively about Gerry as usual and complaining about the early wake-up. He wants to vote quickly and go right back to bed. Danielle is reading the Bible. The 5 houseguests with votes make the procession to the Diary Room. When Danielle heads out to the patio after her session, a trying-not-to-look-nervous Roddy asks “How did it feel in there voting me out?” It turns out that Roddy really is slightly nervous. In the head of Hosuehold room with Chiara, he wonders what it will be like if he leaves the room and people start telling him that he’ll be voted out. He says that every person gave there word they wouldn’t vote for him. Chiara agrees that she just wouldn’t want to live in a house with such awful people. She offers her theory that the producers mostly cast people from the coasts because they want houseguests with class. Yes, try as we might, not all of us are fortunate enough to be as classy as New Yorker Chiara. Outdoors, Gerry comments that Marcellas is doing well—two straight weeks withuto getting nominated. Marcellas grumbles about Gerry jinxing him. They bring up “Operation Revolving Door” again, the supposed pact to immediately evict the returning houseguest, with the idea of guaranteeing everyone a stress-free week. Chiara suggests that someone who hasn’t been nominated yet could be the decoy against the “Revolving Door” target. Josh emerges from his room to announce that he’s been bitten by a lizard. Out in the backyard, he tells Roddy how much he really loves him, and that he got choked up writing his good bye speech. Roddy admits that he doesn’t see himself going much further in the game—the incessant chatter about celebrities that the others prefer leaves him on the outs most of the time. And right now in fact, it is indeed all cards and movie talk from the other houseguests. Josh approaches Chiara in the kitchen and tells her that he really does want to be friends with her on the outside, but that she left him with only one choice of how to act this week. Chiara’s response is that we make our own choices. Josh reveals that the staff has told him they’re pleasantly surprised he hasn’t been worse—based on their experience with him before the show, they figured he would create even more trouble (is he laying the groundwork for claiming that his obnoxiousness in the house was all just an act?) Maybe Roddy really has gotten through to him, or maybe it’s just that he’s reached the fifth stage of grieving, but Josh, removed now from any incentive to lie or scheme, is relaxed and pleasant. He says that today is the best day he’s had in a long while. He wants everyone to know how much he really cares about them, and that he’d do it all over again. He says that it’s hard to keep up the evil “role” all the time. This is a huge change from the depressed Lizard King we’ve seen thus far this week. Josh talks up Roddy’s honesty to Danielle, and later brags to Roddy that he just helped him out. Josh tells Roddy that he believes Danielle and Marcellas are tight, and that they’re just using Gerry for now. He also believes that they’ve made a run at Jason, but that he is still loyal to Roddy. All the talk of his love for everyone seems far off when Josh corners Gerry to warn him that Marcellas has been furious with him for weeks and will definitely nominate him if he gets the chance. Josh then whispers to Roddy that he’s put an end to the Gerry/Marcellas alliance. Danielle and Marcellas are venting on Gerry and his alleged habit of sucking up to the Head of Household. Danielle suspects the Head of Household competition will get more unpredictable as the numbers dwindle, and that the returning houseguest may actually win the power this week (they’ve noticed that there has been no head of Household practice this week). Marcellas predicts that Roddy will be dumping Chiara any day now. And by coincidence, Roddy, perhaps sensing the tide turning against him and wondering if it might be wise to get a new ally, calls Jason over to the hammock and tries to cut a deal. They agree not to nominate each other the next week, but Jason says he can’t make firm commitments beyond that. Roddy tells Jason he doesn’t have any deals with anyone that last beyond the moment, but he’s definitely pushing for Jason to declare his loyalty once and for all. Roddy, continuing his prep work for next week, later touches base with Marcellas, reassuring him that he has no intention of putting him up for nomination. Marcellas tells Jason that he thinks Gerry now knows that he doesn’t like him, because he keeps running away from Gerry. Dinner is served and Josh is eating with the group. The main post-dinner highlight involves Lisa and Danielle teaming up to wax Chiara’s armpits. Roddy has looked a little down all night, contemplating the loss of yet another buddy. But he makes another run at Jason, telling him that he’ll need someone he can depend on. He refers to his relationship with Chiara as “implied”—oh boy. It’s the hard sell that Roddy has excelled at, but Jason fends him off with his typical hemming and hawing. For all his smarts, Roddy seems not to have considered that perhaps Jason is reluctant because he’s made a deal somewhere else.
