Josh is Diabolical, Chiara is a Liar - by Charlie Toft
Sunday is a day of rest. Well, to be honest, every day in the Big Borther house is a day of rest, but without a competition or a vote or a meeting to prepare for, the houseguests get to sleep in to their preferred time. Even Gerry falls back to sleep in a lawn chair after going through his morning ritual. Danielle is the second awake and Gerry wants to talk to her. They end up speaking uninterrupted for nearly an hour. He asks her if she and the other women ever made a pact to evict the men. Danielle denies it and assumes that Roddy has been the one spreading that rumor. The two of them comment on Roddy’s lack of religious faith. Gerry says he’s come around to the idea that Josh has to go this week, and he doesn’t believe (based on mysterious reasoning) that Eric will be the houseguest who returns. Gerry tells Danielle that the two of them need each other to succeed in the game—he continues to operate on the assumption that he’s allied with her and Marcellas. He tells Danielle that he doesn’t think Jason is as naïve as he comes across; she plays dumb and says simply that Jason votes with his heart and she has faith in him. Danielle is figuring she’ll be nominated before long, but says if she is, they had better make sure she goes because she’ll be out for blood if she stays. Gerry does some grumbling about how Roddy asks for people’s word but never offers his in return. The houseguests sleep…and sleep…noon passes…finally they start to get out of bed, since sleeping any longer might endanger their afternoon naps. It sounds as if they’re starting to figure out that Josh, a waiter, may have lied when he claimed to be a substitute teacher—you need a college degree for that, don’t you? asks Lisa. She says she got sick the airplane when she flew home for Christmas. Chiara is sounding disenchanted with Jason, telling Roddy that she’s not sure she can trust him any longer after his surprise vote last week. She says that Marcellas probably needs to go next, because he’s “hard to read”. Chiara announces that everyone should agree to nominate the houseguest who’s brought back—unless it’s Eric, she adds. Roddy seems fairly uninterested, moving on to tell a story about bears in Alaska. Chiara reveals that she has chronic problems handling money, and plays her parents off against each other in order to get her bills paid. Lovely. Past 1:30 now, and Jason has finally awoken. He says his folks are probably home from church already and are aghast to see that he’s still in bed (as are we). Marcellas cooks pancakes for everyone. Scenes from an afternoon: Gerry tries to turn a coffee can into a sprinkler. Danielle and Lisa talk about Disney movies. Chiara yells that the Internet people should get a life! (Hey, I wasn’t the one in bed till after noon). Josh has been almost invisible except for occasional shots of him playing cards in bed. Chiara has a small nosebleed and says (ones hopes as a joke) that she’s surprised they let her on Big Brother with coke in her system. The houseguests are herded into the Tiki Room while their America’s Choice gift is being prepared. It turns out to be the microwave (again, something Jason asked for), and the gang celebrates by cooking popcorn. Josh stays in his room. Even this moment is marred by some Gerry-bashing. Marcellas says he saw Gerry put his hands in his armpits and then place them in the bowl, ans soon everyone is eating out of an individual bowl. Marcellas says he wants to have an “intervention”, like the one from the first weekend in the house. Danielle isn’t thrilled about that idea. Lisa claims that Josh is trying to stir up trouble by telling her about treacherous things Chiara has done, and how the transcripts of the show will prove that he wasn’t campaigning against Lisa. The consensus is that Josh is diabolical and Chiara is a liar. Marcellas says if he’s the next Head of Household, he’ll have to nominate Gerry because he’s had with him. Danielle says that America doesn’t like her because they didn’t give her the letter from home (America isn’t voting for the winner of the show, though). The guys work out while the women do stir-fry and talk about sex. Josh takes his dinner and goes out to the basketball court to eat. Earlier Jason had broached the idea of doing “something nice” for Josh, which everyone loudly turned down. During dinner it is mentioned that there will be no more post-eviction sequestering—it’s not clear how they know this. They take a stab at setting the microwave clock and get it nearly right. They assume (possibly correctly) that knowing the time might get them in bed earlier. The women do some mild complaining about how the guys are halfhearted washers of dirty dishes. Roddy drops in and an argument ensues about the meaning of “cheating”, with Chiara saying that since she was never caught cheating on her boyfriend, she technically didn’t lie. Roddy says that living a lie and telling a lie are really the same things, and appears to be agitated that Chiara isn’t agreeing. He attributes his attitude to having been lied to in the past. Lisa and Danielle sit and watch. Most of the gang repairs to the backyard for duckball and tubbing later, while the solitary Josh dribbles a basketball and flips cards indoors. They come up with the idea of dressing in ‘80s outfits for the live show. All the references to the ‘80s prompts a lot of singing and frequent feed cutaways. Jason, who was a baby at the beginning of the ;80s,is more into the idea than anyone. Later on Jason notices a time on the microwave clock: 11: 39. He sense they’ve possibly been staying up past 2 AM some nights! Possibly, Jason. Before bed there’s more tension, which begins when Roddy gets annoyed by Chiara’s insistence on plucking his eyebrows and going after his zits. She stomps off to do the same for Jason. During a visit to the big bedroom later on, Chiara starts discussing what she takes to be Roddy’s idiosyncrasies in front of the others, which sets him off. His growing discomfort with Chiara has been obvious all day. In the meantime, Gerry comes in the room, sits on Marcellas’s bed, and starts picking his feet. This sends Marcellas screaming into the night. One big happy family.
