Eric Takes the Long Walk - by Charlie Toft
Eric and Lisa are both in and out of sleep on this, their last morning together. The other early stirrers at the Big Brother house are the staffers in the backyard, doing more prep work for the bowling competition later in the day. The early conversation picks up more or less where it left off on Wednesday, with Gerry-bashing. Marcellas leads the way, saying that Gerry is humiliating himself, his family, and the teaching profession. The underwear-washing-in-the-sink was the last straw. He's tired of Gerry and Roddy acting like they're the only intelligent people in the house. In truth, Marcellas has been more and more peevish and lethargic since the eviction of Amy. Eric and Lisa see to packing duties. Roddy touches base with Lisa and offers consoling words, doing some last-minute campaigning for her vote at the end of the show (he still figures she's leaving). She tells Roddy she wants her final vote to be based solely on memories of living in the house, since you can't trust the editing on television. There's a lockdown inside, and Gerry takes the time away from the elliptical trainer to read the Bible and call out choice quotes. The show theme music is pumped into the house, and Gerry plays air guitar along with it. It's very wrong. The houseguests finally make it outside after noon and there's general lounging around, killing time until the live show. Eric and Lisa get in some last-minute snuggling, which comes to an end when he falls asleep on top of her-now that's not very romantic. Chiara gets upset when a fly "attacks" her, and valiant young Jason attempts to slay, or swat, the fearsome beast. It's a more mindless than usual day, though Danielle is thinking ahead, and venting at the way she rides on Roddy's coattails. She and Marcellas discuss the possibility of nominating Chiara and Josh next time around. The houseguests have a little more time to do a last bit of practicing on the game, before being confined indoors for show preparation. When the live feeds return after Eric's eviction (on the anticipated 4-3 vote), the women are talking about sex. So in that sense, nothing much has changed. But the wheels are turning, especially for those for whom the eviction is unexpected. Lisa says thank you to Chiara and Danielle. She says that it might be best not to know who voted for who, a notion that the new Head of Household, Chiara, quickly agrees with. Roddy has already figured out what went wrong-Jason voted to evict Eric, something that Roddy had not thought possible. He seems more disappointed than angry-if only he had known, he would have said some things to Eric before he left. There is some suspicion, fueled mostly by Josh, that Marcellas and Jason had a secret deal to vote out Eric. Marcellas denies this and wants to know if Roddy now intends to go after Jason. Chiara pipes in that people shouldn't forget that technically, she is the Head of Household. But at least for now, there may be an assumption that Roddy will pull the strings. Chiara heads over to Lisa and Danielle to begin early discussions about who to nominate. Surprisingly, Josh seems to be at the head of her hit list, not Gerry. In fact, she's concerned enough about the supposed Gerry/Josh alliance that she wants to make a deal with Gerry beforehand not to veto a Josh nomination. Danielle suggests possibly putting Gerry up as a decoy-giving Josh a false sense of security so he doesn't drive them crazy all week. Ironically, Josh's insistence that Jason and Marcellas are allies, which is pretty close to the truth for a change, seems to be the last straw. He's made too many deals, they all agree, and he has no credibility left. Once Josh is gone, all his deals are null and void and the game can start fresh, Chiara says, adding that whoever won't commit to voting out Josh is in danger of becoming the other nominee. The three of them are feeling the girl-power vibes. Chiara checks out her Head of Household goodies, which includes a letter from home. Her mother says she's been watching the feeds, but she doesn't mention anything about disowning Chiara. Roddy is still drowning his sorrows about the eviction of Eric; Lisa tells him she felt like leaving herself when she saw the look in Eric's eyes. The peanut butter crowd rejoices as dinner arrives in the form of sushi, which is greedily wolfed down. With dinner over, serious scheming is about to begin. Chiara kicks it off by telling Lisa that Josh had warned her that Lisa was out to get her-she says she now realizes it was disinformation. Chiara tells Lisa not to say anything, however-she wants to confront him with it when he's nominated. If Josh makes a scene at nominations, she'll point out all the deals he's made with the men in the house. Next, it's Jason's turn to deal with Chiara. She's upset at his vote and wants to know why he doesn't trust her. He stammers out that he felt unallied-a fifth wheel with the couples--and he felt he needed to improve his position. He also tells her-slick move!-that he didn't want to see another woman leave. Chiara tells him she wants the final 3 to be the two of them plus Roddy. She asks Jason if he has a deal with Marcellas, and Jason says no. When she says she feels betrayed and is hurt that he can't trust her, Jason tries to remind her it's a game. His discomfort with the length of the conversation is obvious. He admits he has a crush on her, and she promises Jason she would never nominate him or vote to evict him. Chiara and Roddy, now missing Eric, are really going to put the pressure on Jason. In the Head of Household room, Josh repeats to Chiara, and later Roddy, his story about seeing a handshake between Jason and Marcellas. He says he knows for a fact that Jason promised his vote to Eric personally. He thinks both Jason and Marcellas should be nominated-and there might be 3 votes to evict Jason. But his pitch seems to be falling on deaf ears. Again, Josh has come closer than anyone to figuring out the nature of Jason's loyalties, but a lack of credibility built up over a month is coming back now to bite him. And Josh can't help but oversell things-he says that Jason yelled at Chiara during their recent talk, and that simply didn't happen. Roddy appropriates the Head of Household room for his own summit meeting with Jason, during which Jason stammers through the same rationale for his anti-Eric vote that he gave Chiara. Roddy forgives Jason for his "mistake", and Jason apologizes, perhaps too enthusiastically. Just before bedtime, Danielle detonates her little grenade, telling Lisa that Chiara voted to evict her, and that's why Eric and his supporters seemed so confident all week. Danielle reassures Lisa that Eric was not part of the plotting-it was all Roddy and Chiara's idea. Lisa can't understand why Chiara would have done that to her. She'll now have to pretend to get along with her. For now Lisa seems totally on board with a possible new alliance, but things have a way of changing in a hurry.
