Voting Day: Eric or Lisa? - by Charlie Toft

The houseguests wake up on Wednesday morning commenting on how cold they were overnight. And it's Voting Day, which means the cold hard work of evicting an inoffensive houseguest, either Eric or Lisa. Danielle spends her morning time practicing the food challenge peg game, while Marcellas is on a cleaning kick. Jason comes up to Marcellas in the bathroom and confirms that he will be voting (momentarily) to evict Eric, in spite of all the pressure he's received to go the other way. Both seem certain that Gerry will be casting the deciding vote in favor of evicting Eric. The voting starts in the late morning; Eric and Lisa, who won't vote, are sleeping in.

While everyone takes their turn waiting for the Diary Room, a bash-Gerry session is taking place in the bathroom area, with Roddy in particular complaining that he insinuates himself into other people's conversations. Marcellas says that he's going to tell Gerry to stop lecturing everybody. Roddy says it will be a lot of fun the next two weeks, with Josh and Gerry sure to be evicted-we've heard that story before. Chiara and Jason bring breakfast (it's now past noon) into the bedroom for Eric and Lisa. Having just dissed Gerry for always playing teacher, Roddy now proceeds to expound on the benefits of light therapy. No one says anything. Conversation seems unusually vapid, ranging from state fair attractions to the different names for carbonated beverages throughout the USA.

The lockdown ends and the houseguests head outside to see the game that's been erected for tomorrow's Head of Household competition, which involves what appear to be turf-covered bowling lanes. A few of them practice briefly, rolling croquet-like balls along the lanes. Soon card games are under way indoors. Something about the act of voting-an end to several days of scheming and plotting-sends these houseguests into virtual hibernation. Josh has scarcely been seen all day, not that anyone in or out of the house really minds.

Roddy gives Chiara an odd compliment-she's a "million dollar girl", then points out that she acts like Oliver Stone whenever he compliments her-always looking for the conspiracy. Eric tells Jason that a part of him is ready to leave and watch the shows at home, but if he does stay, it will be a fun week of torturing Gerry. What follows is yet another round of bashing, with Eric and Lisa criticizing the way he lays on the furniture after working out and questioning whether Gerry ever does his laundry. Chiara brings up the fact that Gerry calls the elliptical trainer "Gwen".

As the afternoon drags on, there is more practice with the bowling game. Roddy tells Eric he's looking forward to nominating Josh, who can't be trusted because he's cutting deals with everybody. Later on Josh says with a straight face that there must be a rat in the house-he believes someone has told Roddy that Josh wants to nominate him. Both Danielle and Chiara listen to his chatter with forbearance. "You can't lie if you don't open your mouth," says Josh, who talks more than anyone else in the house.

Outside practicing the bowling game, Marcellas mentions how once you've gone through the process of getting nominated and having to pack, you start to realize that leaving isn't the end of the world. Danielle replies that the day she leaves, she will feel she let her family down. She says that her family needed to take out a loan to cover the money she's not bringing in while she's in the house. She isn't even sure she'll still have her old job. The only reason to come on Big Brother is to win the money, she says-not for fame (there won't be any), and not to hang out in Las Vegas once it's all over.

With the nominees leading the way, there's yet another round of Gerry-bashing: His stories are worse than Roddy's. They don't like his cooking. He coughs all over the food. He's left the Head of Household room stinky. He washes his underwear in the sink-or is it that he doesn't wash at all? To listen to them rant, it's amazing any of them are still alive after a month of living with Typhoid Gerry. Lisa and Eric bring up Danielle's earlier money conversation-they don't like how it put them on the spot, laying a guilt trip on anyone who might consider voting her out. Marcellas says that Danielle is paying the game a little too hard-whether he really agrees or if the remark is part of his distancing strategy, it's hard to tell.

Eric is looking forward to eating lots of ice cream tonight, just in case it's his last night. He and Roddy talk about how "they" need to win the next Head of Household. Always looking to cover all his bases, Roddy tells Lisa that if she's the one who stays, he'll look out for her. It's not clear whether Roddy realizes just how likely a scenario this actually is. Lisa wants to know if this means she'll inherit all the deals he's made with Eric. Roddy suggests that Josh could be a problem for them, since they are seen as allies. Later at the hot tub, Lisa makes a little remark about Roddy's namedropping, implying that she doesn't know if all his stories are on the up-and-up.

Roddy tells the others that he finally got a good night's sleep the previous night alone in bed-hint, hint. He has a little tiff later with Chiara, who is worried about how her vote against Lisa will look-will she be portrayed as a backstabber on television? Chiara's second thoughts about her vote may reflect a longing for independence from her master, but she may also have noticed the time Roddy has spent with Lisa tonight. She's feeling a bit paranoid in the house-why, even Jason may be playing the game, she tells him.

It's midnight, and the silly time of day is underway. Marcellas claims to have had an affair with a former Detroit Red Wing-"I can't even get an autograph!" exclaims Roddy. Gerry, still awake for some reason, runs around the house impersonating an ape. He also recites from "Gunga Din", complete with accent. Chiara kisses Roddy's bald spot-"I didn't have one till I met her," he says, which is actually pretty funny. Roddy and Josh are up playing chess till the wee hours again, and for one last night, Lisa tries to sleep with Eric muttering the night away by her side.
