No Veto Today - by Charlie Toft
The thought occurs that the promised “twist” to shake up Big Brother may be unnecessary, as the houseguests are creating enough drama on their own. We’re on course for a dramatic eviction this Thursday, one that could determine which faction in the house dominates from here on in. Gerry gets in a one hour workout on the elliptical trainer this morning. He really is shaping up, little by little—a good use of all the spare time. The other houseguests have to be awakened by 10:30; the veto meeting is set for the noon hour. They complain about awakening even more than usual. The idea is floated that they should just wear pajamas to the meeting. Chiara is still talking as if she’s not sure if she should use the veto or not. She asks Jason his opinion. She can’t use it if it looks like Roddy or Jason would be the new nominee, but she’s considering saving Eric. What happened to “girl power”? Chiara tells him she isn’t thinking along men vs. women lines. She says that she gets along better with Eric than she does Lisa, and Eric is the stronger person to have on your side. She lets Jason know that Roddy might even side with him over Eric in the long run, if it comes down to that. Danielle and Marcellas disagree slightly about what to do next. Marcellas seems convinced that Josh finally needs to go next week, but Danielle favors getting rid of Roddy if they have the chance. Marcellas suggests that they wouldn’t have the votes, but he counts Lisa (assuming she stays) in Roddy’s camp. Danielle thinks Lisa would be on their side. Roddy has figured out that it’s time to work Jason over. Telling him “you’re the only guy in the house that I trust,” he tries to sway Jason into voting to keep Eric. In a real stretch of the truth, Roddy informs Jason that he had to talk Gerry out of nominating him. Jason tries to deflect all of Roddy’s flattery, and makes no commitment about the vote. The interruption for the veto meeting is so brief that it comes as no surprise that Chiara did not use it. Lisa says that she would have done the exact same thing in that position—protect her man. Roddy next turns to Marcellas, someone who has already said he’ll vote to evict Eric. Roddy lets him know that Lisa may not be a player Marcellas can trust not to nominate him. He implied that there was a favor coming (yes, yet another one) if Marcellas does what he asks. Chiara has completely signed onto Roddy’s plan. She tells him that she’s pleased she knows now that Lisa was planning to come after her, and she’ll be happy to vote Lisa out. Of course, Roddy also assures her that they have Jason’s vote. Chiara says that if Danielle gets mad, she can claim that she had to get rid of Lisa to protect herself from reprisals. Jason lets Marcellas know that Chiara told him she was changed her mind and would now vote to evict Lisa. Marcellas heads off to tell this to Danielle, who is currently waxing her armpits. They agree that Gerry would vote to evict Eric in a tiebreaker, as Eric has made threats to come after Gerry if he stays in the house. They think it’s funny that Roddy volunteered to be nominated as a “pawn” along with Josh. Roddy will be weakened and Gerry will take most of the blame. Josh takes his turn at trying to snow Chiara, telling her that part of his deal with Gerry was that neither she nor Roddy would get nominated. Danielle walks by and Chiara asks for a word. Danielle curtly says they will talk later and heads off to work out. Gerry comments that Danielle looks more intense than usual. Chiara and Danielle have their little talk after the workout, and it’s a comedy classic. Chiara says she heard from a reliable source” that Lisa would come after her because she didn’t use the veto, but she can’t say who the source is. Danielle asks again, and Chiara admits that Roddy told her—and he heard it from Eric. With more patience than almost anyone else would have in this situation, Danielle asks her how she knows that Eric isn’t just saying that to help himself? Lisa interrupts this conversation before it can go further. Chiara gets her little dose of reassurance from Roddy, who tells her both that 1) Josh is someone who can’t be trusted in the long run, but 2) Josh is probably telling the truth about Lisa coming after her. This makes perfect sense to Chiara. All the scrambling settles down as the houseguests prepare for dinner (steak night for the non-peanut butter people). Lisa says that the producers are upset about the romantic couple getting broken up—she’s probably right about that. Marcellas decides to get in the hot tub naked—another barrier broken! Chiara says that the body is a beautiful thing—why, she has a picture of herself over her bed. Out at the hot tub, Roddy asks Danielle to ease up on her criticism of Jason for winning the food challenge—evidence that the counteralliances’s plan to look as if they’re feuding may be working. Alone in the tub with Danielle, Chiara now says that she hasn’t made up her mind about the vote. Danielle reminds her that it’s an option to arrange a tie and put the heat on Gerry, but Chiara says she isn’t worried about Gerry, who’s unpopular as it is. Josh tries to cut a deal with Marcellas, telling him that he isn’t planning to nominate him next week, but wants to know if it’s reciprocal (that’s 4 people Josh has now said he won’t nominate). Marcellas takes the deal—an excellent deal for Josh, who has already said he’ll throw the Head of Household competition. He later lets Jason know; if Jason is upset about his alliance partners cutting a deal without him, he doesn’t say. Chiara comes out of the Diary Room later angry about what she regarded as an accusatory session (they supposedly asked her why she wants all the women gone). Roddy really sets her off later when he suggests that Chiara had a double standard--they wouldn’t allow a woman in the house to be treated the way she treats Jason, yet she got mad at his flirting with Amy. Chiara is furious, accusing him of wanting to get in the way of her friendship with Jason. The rest of the evening is taken up with the usual round of card games and hot tubbing, Gerry early to bed, Eric and Lisa pillow talk, and Jason reading his letter one more time, with tears in his eyes. Roddy and Danielle chat just before they head off to sleep; he tells her she should use Big Brother to become a personal trainer. That’s assuming she doesn’t go all the way and write a “Secrets of Success” book like Richard Hatch.
