Roddy Pressures Chiara - by Charlie Toft
OK, I was wrong that people in the house would want to get up early for face time with Gerry. These houseguests like their sleep far too much for that. But it’s not surprising that the first one up after Gerry is Danielle. He tells her that he’s done some “thinking and praying” overnight, and has to tell her something. The big message: he might get voted out next week, as things stand. But if anything should happen to him, he thinks that she and Marcellas really should think about an alliance with Jason. Gerry tells her that they passed up their chance to get rid of Josh, and now want him to do it. After some chatter about he doesn’t want this house to end up like World War I (don’t ask), Danielle says that she tries not to lie in the house and asks for the daily strength to keep going. She reports the whole conversation to Marcellas, who is amused by the Jason references. The two of them are gathering laundry. Chiara asks Marcellas why he’s up so early—it’s 11:30. Gerry delivers his pro-Jason pitch to Marcellas. He tells Danielle and Marcellas that the three of them constitute a “soul patrol”, which officially answers the question of just how ridiculous Gerry can get. The women get together for their first-in-a-while sex talk. Chiara says she lost her innocence pretty quickly in New York, which we might have guessed. She also admitted having done drugs with her mother. The houseguests engage in some meta-talk about the TV show and how they were cast, the “roles” they are filling. Roddy feels that they might be disappointed that he isn’t more obviously “in love” with Chiara, but he says that would be dishonest in the house. The men do some shaving later—Marcellas shaves his scalp, and Josh shaves his goatee into some indescribable new design. Eric tells Josh that he thinks his current dark mood will improve once Lisa is gone. Josh reiterates his certainty that Eric will stay, which in turn is base on a certainty that Gerry will vote out Lisa. Eric decides to ask Marcellas point blank if he’s decided who to vote for, and Marcellas tells him nothing personal, but the firefighter is the bigger threat in the end. He does admit he’d vote to evict Josh instead if that became an option. When the feeds come back after a brief absence, we learn that Jason was the winner of the America’s Choice “letter from home”. Gerry offers some words of consolation to Danielle, who actually seems fine with it. Jason reads the letter and shares it with the others—good not to let jealousy fester. For anyone wondering how long Chiara could keep from getting swayed by Roddy regarding the eviction vote, the answer is 5 PM on Sunday. She asks him how he would feel about Eric leaving, and he replies that he wouldn’t like it. Roddy tells her that Eric would be better to have in the house—he’s both a more loyal friend to him (as if Roddy’s protection should be Chiara’s top concern) and less likely to nominate her than Lisa. Chiara says that Danielle would never forgive her; Roddy tells her that Danielle doesn’t need to know how she voted. Chiara clearly feels guilty, but Roddy is firm. Chiara says she “knows” that Gerry will vote Eric out, but she can’t say how she knows. Of course, it isn’t very hard to figure out, and Roddy grumbles about how Danielle may have to go next. Chiara gets the figurative pat on the head from her master. During dish-washing later, Chiara brings up the potential use of her veto with Gerry, who again implies that Roddy would be the replacement nominee. He tells Chiara she should “talk to Dani” if she needs details on the vote. Josh bursts in to talk about his idea to have a romantic dinner for Eric and Lisa on Wednesday night, assuming nominations don’t change. Gerry has announced plans to emulate Gandhi (please) by having his own personal peanut butter & jelly Day of Solidarity. Chaira makes “peanut butter balls” by rolling up slices of bread—creative. The hammock is used for a series of conversations—Lisa/Roddy (awkward); Gerry/Marcellas; and Gerry/Josh, who are unintentionally funny in the way they discuss allies who don’t really exist. Josh talks about winning the next Head of Household but doesn’t seem to want to actually nominate anybody. He says he’ll never vote against Roddy, even if he can’t be sure the loyalty is returned. Danielle and Jason have a quick chat. Jason is concerned about his future relationship with Roddy, assuming he votes to evict Eric. Neither of them yet realizes that Roddy is now aware of the danger that Eric is in. Plotting and scheming come to an abrupt end and we get a long conversation on the merits of various cookies and candies. More entertaining chatter comes later when they talk about bad jobs they’ve suffered through. Lisa had to dress up like Fiber One cereal. Josh admits he’s been involved in telemarketing scams. Jason, it turns out, is one of us—a past watcher of the live feeds, that is. His knowledge of exactly what can be seen and heard is dead-on accurate, and the other houseguests quiz him. Jason predicts that everyone has positive and negative web pages by now. Interesting how the one houseguest who was a prior fan is the one who doesn’t go out of his way to bash the Internet crowd. Josh and Chiara go over the vote later, telling each other how important it is that “their” group sticks together (after she voted to evict Josh two weeks ago). Josh pledges his support to Chiara, as he has to Gerry and Roddy just since sundown. Chiara claims that she can be diabolical, which must be based on something we’ve yet to see. By midnight it seems as if people are drifting off to bed, with only Jason and Marcellas awake to idly play cards. But no one really goes to sleep—Danielle comes back out, complaining of indigestion, and after Jason heads to bed he stays up chatting with Eric and Lisa. By 2 AM everyone except Lisa and Gerry is out of bed again and in the backyard. Eventually it’s just Roddy and Josh, up till nearly dawn; playing chess, talking about evolution, Noah’s Ark, and (again) how Roddy is afraid to put his complete intelligence out there, because the other houseguests will just resent him for it. You know, Roddy: if you’re so smart, you would have noticed by now that there’s another alliance at work in the house right underneath your nose.
