Gerry Takes Center Stage - by Charlie Toft
Gerry is up early working the elliptical trainer, and since this is eviction/new Head of Household day, complete with frequent feed blackouts until the live show ends, it won't get more exciting anytime soon. After exercising Gerry lays his sweaty self down on the sofa and sleeps. If Danielle was up to see this, things might get real exciting and fast. At 10 AM, some of the houseguests get up, and the effort exhausts them so much they fall right back into bed. By 11:30 there's a lockdown which has forced everyone out of bed and outdoors. Danielle had a dream about her father having a heart attack. Josh dreamed about working in a McDonald's owned by Rosie O'Donnell. He's also still dreaming of getting Gerry out of the house, in spite of any deal the two cut earlier in the week. Chiara seems to be agreeable to nominating Gerry as well. She meets later with Lisa and Danielle; they feel that Josh wouldn't dare put up two women. Gerry might be a problem, though. Josh, in particular, has been pushing the idea that Gerry might nominate two women. The houseguests get the last of their Subways. Amy seems relaxed and surprisingly upbeat in what look to be her final hours in the house. She talks to herself, practicing her little speech for her eviction. She says that she's been able to cut it to one and a half minutes, which still might be a little long for the CBS people. By mid-afternoon the rehearsals are beginning and the feeds are mostly dark, but after 6 PM we re-enter a house now lacking one southern belle, and which has been turned upside down by Gerry winning Head of Household. Judging by the way he gloried in his few days holding the power of veto, it's clear that no one will love the spotlight of house leadership more. "The old guy hangs in there," he says. "I get to run the game." Within minutes of winning, Gerry tells Marcellas that he more or less knows who he'll nominate already, but he intends to call each houseguest into his new room one by one so they can all make the case. Marcellas seems happy, and no wonder-not only was he not evicted, but Gerry can now do the dirty work of nominating "the couples", leaving Marcellas and his secret alliance in the background. Josh sounds happy too. Given the deal he made, he's safer with Gerry as Head of Household than he would have been with anyone else. In fact, Gerry gets more attention in this first hour of his reign than he's received for the past 2 ½ weeks combined. Gerry hasn't said anything yet, but people are picking up vibes. Marcellas tells Danielle that Gerry might be leaning towards nominating Lisa, but that the other nominee might be Jason. Danielle makes a quick deal with Chiara-I won't vote for you if you're nominated. Chiara suggests to Roddy that Josh might get put up again. Roddy and Eric are leaning towards the idea that Gerry will nominate two women. Josh agrees that the three of them are likely safe, but it might still be a good idea not to be seen as pressuring Gerry. Danielle is out shooting baskets. Josh runs his mouth to her-he especially wants to know what Marcellas is thinking-but Danielle is giving up very little info, other than saying it might be good for there to be a 3-3 tie, making Gerry decide who's evicted. Lisa tells Eric she thinks it might be Jason and Josh nominated, but Eric regards this as wishful thinking. He's positive both nominations will be from the couples. As the runner-up to Gerry in the Head of Household contest, Eric is blaming himself, and says he hopes their relationship hasn't helped to make Lisa a target. Lisa is rueful. First Gerry put her in a bad spot when he used the veto; now he's gets to nominate himself, and he's cut deals with two likely targets, Josh and Roddy. As she puts it, "I haven't talked to him for two weeks, so I can't start now." The women are all complaining about Gerry and his ambitions as an actor-it's a humiliating turn of events for them. Danielle continues to exhibit girl-power sympathy, mostly for show. The group has Thai food for dinner and toasts the absent Amy. Marcellas tells the appetite-killer story of all time, about a dog that kept killing her puppies. Roddy mentions that he once had a private meeting with the Pope (that figures). Chiara lies across the table and calls herself the evening's main course (that also figures). Gerry spills part of his strategy to Josh: Lisa is definitely going to be a nominee, along with either Eric or Chiara. Josh is insisting on having his key be the first one pulled out of the box (thereby depriving us of all those great "nervous Josh" scenes). Danielle gets a few minutes with Gerry, where she is clearly trying to keep him from nominating 2 women-she floats her "mix the couples" idea from earlier (for example, put Roddy up with Lisa), and reminds him that protecting the women now may help him later. The group heads outside for a hot tub session. Later on, Josh pulls Eric aside to tell him that if he is nominated, it would likely be only to insure a Lisa exit. Eric is unemotional-I plan on seeing her on the outside, he says, but the game is another matter. Josh swears that his only allegiance is to Eric and Roddy. For her part, Lisa says that she hopes Gerry remembers everything Josh has been saying to him-the "Nazi" talk. The house is more split by gender tonight than we've seen it so far. The 3 remaining women are talking relationships in a bedroom, with Lisa relating the romantic story of how Eric said "Hi" to her while they were kissing. The guys are playing poker-in a non-subtle gesture worthy of Josh, Roddy calls the new Head of Household "Uncle Gerry". Roddy has his big sit-down with Gerry later, similar to the talks he had when Marcellas was the head of Household-listening to Gerry's strategy respectfully and flattering him for being able to talk about deep thoughts. Jason, Marcellas, and Danielle discuss how this night has been a good turn of events, except that Roddy probably won't be nominated. Gerry, awake a little later than usual, gets to try out his reflexology training on Chiara, as both he and Jason rub her feet. He gets another reminder from Danielle that it might not look good to the outside world if he nominates two women. The last two awake are Josh and Roddy, who play chess and basketball while spending all their time talking about the game that really interests them. Josh says that his flailing might serve him well with the other houseguests, since he doesn't seem threatening. Roddy, on the other hand, seems to know exactly what is going on, which makes him a target. Tomorrow, Roddy and his buddies might find out what it feels like to be targeted.
