Fine Dining with Marcellas and Amy - by Charlie Toft

It's 10 AM in the Big Brother house and Gerry isn't up yet. He never sleeps this late. This is serious. Could reality television survive the scandal sure to result from a sleep apnea-related death? But soon enough Gerry's up doing laundry. Jason gets up next, makes the coffee and talks to himself. Lisa and Eric get up, and start in on more of their increasingly aggressive kissyface. Jason walks in on them-bad boy! At the rate Eric and Lisa are going, on-camera sex is looking inevitable within the next few weeks.

Danielle gets up and starts making breakfast at noon. Danielle, Jason, and Marcellas take advantage of being the only houseguests who need less than 16 hours of sleep a day, as they reaffirm their commitment made yesterday to break up the couples with nominations if they get the chance. This conversation leads to a nice little postmodern moment. When they talk about how they aren't supposed to sing, Jason mentions that in the past, whenever the houseguests would say something that the producers didn't want aired, they would switch the feeds to a shot of the front of the house. And by saying this Jason calls forth.the front of the house. Jason has emerged as the houseguest with the greatest familiarity with the history of Big Brother, which might become significant later.

The houseguests are awaiting the announcement of the America's Choice winner, but there's a crisis to attend to first: Lisa has some kind of bite on her posterior, probably from a spider (she's apparently told it may have been a black widow). This leads to a sober request that the door to their bedroom now be kept closed, as if spiders are usually bothered much by doors. Amy is hoping she wins the America's Choice; she figures it will be the last chance for any pleasant memories in the house. She's fretting about a potential unanimous vote for eviction-"it's cruel and tacky," she says. She also says that in preparation for her exit, she asked the producers if evicted houseguests are being sequestered, and the response was that they couldn't say. It lends credence to one of the main rumors surrounding the current season.

Josh asks Roddy about the possibility of giving Amy a sympathy vote, but Roddy shoots him down. Amy's frequent whining about being a unanimous evictee is irritating Marcellas-he wonders if Amy isn't campaigning, just a little. After all, if she can talk 4 people into casting a sympathy vote for her, she stays in the house. Marcellas does reiterate that he would take Amy as his date if he wins America's Choice. At 4 PM the house hears who the winner is.Marcellas! It appears Roddy's prediction that Internet "demographics" would work against Marcellas was mistaken. Amy is thrilled because she will be his date-she figured one of the couples would win. And Marcellas has gotten confirmation that regardless of his precarious status in the house right now, America likes him.

Jealousy comes from Jason of all people, who gripes at Amy saying she'd get to eat oysters (lobster is the main course). And Marcellas says that Gerry came up after the announcement to remind him yet again about the veto that kept him in the house. Gerry lacks tact at key times. Eric and Lisa are together again on the hammock, talking about life outside the house (Eric is sounding less sure about his girl back home all of a sudden) and a little about the game-Eric reaffirms his faith in Roddy and his lack of faith in Gerry and Josh. These two are separating themselves more and more.

There are occasional shots of Marcellas's "dining room" being prepared (it's actually the Diary Room, generally not seen on the live feeds) and Amy making herself up. They love the spread. Amy chatters some more about the oysters. The two of them complain about Gerry yet again, and admit their love for Target. They make a cute couple, which the America's Choice voters no doubt counted on. Having solidified things with Marcellas and Jason earlier, Danielle now moves on to Chiara and Lisa. The three of them agree that one of the men needs to go next. Specifically, they want to nominate Josh, along with either Eric or Roddy-this would assuredly rid the house of Josh once and for all. They're worried about Josh winning Head of Household and nominating two women.

Chiara seems a little grumpy during dinner for the other houseguests and argues a bit with Roddy afterwards. This doesn't stop her from cleaning Roddy's room and laying out his clothes (oh brother). Amy and Marcellas return, with a slightly drunk Amy babbling about her chocolate and how good everything was and how much she really likes everybody. Jason and then Danielle try to persuade her that she not herself and needs to lay down-Danielle tells her that she's not "acting like a lady." Amy's quiet time doesn't last, and she wanders out to the hot tub area still drunk (Eric warns that they had better not let her fall in). Later, she tells Roddy that she's said nasty things about all the others in the Diary Room, but she was being honest. She says that being in the house has made her realize that she needs people, and repeats that she's mostly on the show for the notoriety she'll have back home.

Roddy presents his usual spiel about how Amy should grow from this experience and how he's never been anything other than honest with her. He actually says he'll never forget the conversation. Roddy is always playing the game, and may be thinking ahead to a possible final vote with his current kindness to Amy. Roddy comes back inside demanding to see a Diary Room producer (they're all gone) and telling the others about his wonderful talk with Amy. He's fairly vague when recounting the talk with Chiara, for obvious reasons. But Roddy's talk has served to stir up the brewing counteralliance between Marcellas, Danielle, and Jason.

Jason observes that this is why Roddy needs to go now: he nominated Amy and now she loves him. They go over various nomination scenarios for next week once again. The news here is that Jason's occasional talks with both Danielle and Marcellas individually seem to have bloomed into something official between the three of them. Danielle and Marcellas talk alone later, congratulating themselves on being the trio that can beat the couples, and how the naïve Jason is the perfect instrument to get information from the others. Later, at 4 AM, Jason does get some information from fellow insomniac Amy: she once put her sister's eye out with a ring. Let's hope Amy can get all her stories out in the next 4 days.
