Amy and Marcellas Nominated - by Charlie Toft

On Friday, the king of behind-the-scenes politics in the Big Brother was forced into the open spotlight. There are some hard feelings toward Roddy, the new Head of Household, who nonetheless seems in total control.for now. The houseguests are awakened for an early food competition, which makes early morning talk even less interesting than usual. The food competition game appears to involve placing large foam shapes with the name of food groups written on them into a puzzle grid. The houseguests do fairly well and as a result will eat well this week. The houseguests win a giant sub sandwich and divide it amongst themselves for an early lunch. Amy lies on the couch sulking and not eating-even before she's officially nominated, Amy is exhibiting a defeatist attitude.

Josh is sulking over old wounds. He tells Roddy that he's upset that Lisa and Chiara voted to evict him-how dare they support Tonya, who was a newcomer in their alliance? Josh wants Lisa nominated and evicted, which would put Chiara under their control. Roddy makes no promises, not surprisingly. Josh tells Amy that he has a plan that would save her, and that Roddy is planning something unexpected. Marcellas is apprehensive about what lies ahead as he and Danielle talk over the situation. Amy, says Marcellas, has alienated too many people-there's only so much he can do for her. He's resigned that Amy will be next out, but hopes Gerry goes afterwards. Even Josh is preferable to Gerry at this point, he states.

While some of the houseguests relax in the hot tub, Josh continues to plead the case for nominating Lisa (and implicitly, for saving Amy). He plays up the alleged disloyalty of the women again, implying that they will turn on the guys in the end. He even talks up Amy as a possible replacement in the alliance. Roddy again tells Josh that he's playing the game too hard, and not-so-subtly brings up Josh's indiscretions while trying to save him from eviction. Lisa and Eric do some smooching in the kitchen. Eric says that one of them really needs to win head of Household again, so they can have the relative privacy of that bedroom. Lisa complains about the pressure she's been getting from the Diary Room to play up her relationship with Eric.

Just before the nominations are announced, Marcellas and Gerry talk about the couples (Eric & Lisa and Roddy & Chiara) who represent the only visible alliances the house has at this point. This leads into Marcellas telling Amy he's not in the mood to deal with Gerry and all his plotting. He says he'll never be able to take leaving before Josh and Gerry. Amy recaps a weird dream she had that involved Muppets and being given a sleeping drug by Chiara. The nominations take place in the late afternoon, and when we return it's clear that Amy and Marcellas drew the short straws. Roddy is apologizing profusely at having to nominate them, or anybody. Eric makes reference (I'm sure sorry we didn't see this on the feeds) to Marcellas kissing Roddy after the nomination.

Amy and Marcellas talk it over and each believes that they will be evicted. Marcellas believes he was put up because he's seen as a threat. He laughs when considering if Gerry would actually veto him again, but they agree that no one will likely use the veto this time. Amy figures she'll get Josh's vote to stay, but that's it. They both get an idea: we can't win and neither of us really wants to stay-why not just walk out now? Amy has done what she came here to do-get on television. Marcellas says we'd never have to see these people again, a bonus. They decide to head to the Diary Room together to check out the details of a joint walkout. Whatever happens in the Diary Room, the two are placated somehow and rejoin the group. Later we learn that the producers refused to pay for their plane ticket home. Amy sounds like she'll be burning bridges all week-she won't clean or wash dishes, and she wants to steal all the chocolate and drink all the wine.

Marcellas and Amy lie in the hammock and Roddy sees his chance to go over and mend fences. Marcellas tells him they'd like privacy, and when Roddy tries to say he feels badly Marcellas tells him to leave them alone, which Roddy does. Amy says, "You know what I just realized? He's a very ugly person." Later on Josh joins Amy in the hammock, trying to provide some comfort. Marcellas and Gerry are playing cards and Marcellas sadly notes that the game will likely end with one of the group of four winning. They part company with Marcellas reaffirming an alliance with Gerry that "supercedes all others"!

The only stranger thing that could happen at this point is Gerry aligning with Josh.oh, look who's talking now. Gerry is proposing a "coalition", not a firm lasting alliance, between the house's two pariahs, and Josh agrees. Marcellas is now ready for his talk with Roddy. He tells Roddy he's not comfortable with being designated as a decoy, given the short shelf life of decoys to this point in the game. Roddy swears that Amy has the votes to leave. He criticizes Amy's unwillingness to fully interact with the others, and warns Marcellas that if he uses the veto to save her, he'll be gone. Roddy's dislike of Amy was not so much in evidence during the week that her best friend, Marcellas, was head of Household.

While the others have fun outside later-the women discover a way to really have fun, using the jets in the hot tub-Marcellas talks over his situation with Gerry in the bedroom. They agree that being here only for the money is not the way to go. Marcellas has the realization: "Before I came here, I thought I was one of the young beautiful people!" He later tries to comfort Amy, who says flatly, "Marcellas, they hate me." In Roddy's lair, Eric and the Head of Household are holding another of their interminable and deadly serious strategy sessions. They vent about Josh some more, and talk about the importance of getting Head of Household next week-they're running out of "safe" people to put up for nomination. Eric wants it next week because he could nominate Gerry and avoid the hard choices later. Smart boy.

Chiara has some words with Jason in the hammock, where she gives the latest in her series of "I hope you don't take my flirting seriously" speeches. Chiara, Lisa, and Danielle then finish off the evening with some girl-talk on the patio. The women seem to have awareness that Roddy and Eric have an agenda that doesn't include them. Their potential for some kind of counter-alliance is something to watch for as Big Brother begins its fourth week.
