Day 16 July 25, 2002 - Live Feed Updates  from BB3 Updates.com

Goodbye Silicone Valley - by Charlie Toft

As Gerry goes through his typical morning routine on Eviction Day we wonder if he's feeling a little like Typhoid Mary, and no, that isn't a cheap handwashing reference. Gerry's first morning chat partner was Lori, who became the first evicted houseguest. Lori was replaced in that role by Tonya, who now seems to be in danger of getting voted out. As if Gerry needed one more reason for people to avoid him. There's a morning lockdown to prepare for the next Head of Household competition, but only Gerry and Tonya are awake to notice. Tonya complains about how bad she looks and Gerry doesn't disagree. Instead he mentions the amount of weight he has lost: Gerry has been a dedicated user of the "elliptical trainer".

A little later we see Chiara pluck Roddy's eyebrows while he grimaces. This is the latest example of a strange new motif running through Big Brother: interpersonal grooming. With all the shaving, plucking, and popping going on, we're sure that there are baboon colonies whose members do less social grooming. Jason turns down Chiara's offer of help and plucks himself. The houseguests are just going through the motions as they await the 5 PM live eviction show. It's past noon and Amy, dreading her upcoming eviction from the Head of Household room, still hasn't stumbled out into daylight. Marcellas is filling the time with more of his typical movie chatter. He and Danielle discuss the upcoming trip to Vegas (Marcellas doesn't think he'll go) and trash Tonya some more. Some of the houseguests discuss the concept of "revenge dates".

The upcoming Head of Household competition is on people's minds. Eric, whose stay-in-the-background strategy has worked well so far, tells Jason that he probably won't try very hard to win. Amy reassures Gerry that while she has an agenda, he isn't part of it, and "you should be happy about that." The feeds are interrupted periodically through the day for the various live show preparations, and then again at 5 PM for the show itself. At 5:40 Tonya makes her last appearance on the feed as she walks her silcone breasts out the front door, a surprise 5-3 loser of the eviction vote. A few minutes later Roddy wins Head of Household, and given his control-freak tendencies, we're looking forward to a fun-filled week.

Roddy seems to have already thought it through, because within minutes he says that he will definitely nominate Amy. Chiara asks him if he's putting Gerry up. Roddy, who just last week said that Gerry would be a certain nominee, says no. He points out that this was a good week to win, because the real bloodbath is still a couple of weeks away. Chiara says she fears that letting Josh stay in the house is a huge mistake. She tries to convince Roddy to nominate Josh and Amy. Roddy is already working out a backup strategy too, and plans to tell Gerry that he'll spare him if Gerry agrees not to use the veto to save Amy. Marcellas expresses his fear that Roddy might be focused on him. He's hoping Gerry will be his opponent if he does get nominated. Amy says Roddy would be crazy to put her up-"don't send the pretty one home."

Swing voter Danielle came down on Josh's side in the end, and tries to justify her decision to a disappointed Chiara. Danielle says she doesn't respect Tonya as a mother, and the fight with Amy was simply the last straw. She concedes that the odds of having a female winner (something that all the women have talked about) just got a lot smaller. Josh has seemed physically drained after finding out he was staying. He whines a little about Lisa voting for him, then tries to insinuate himself back into nomination talk by saying it would be risky to keep Gerry around longer. After the irritation Roddy expressed toward Josh all week, Josh is looking for some indication that he won't be nominated.

Roddy gets admitted to the Head of Household quarters and Chiara moves herself right in with him. Roddy is now saying he will nominate Marcellas, though Amy will be the real target. We laugh at that because not one "real target" has yet been evicted. He'll hate to do it, he says, but Marcellas is the best choice to assure Amy's exit. Next, he extracts from Gerry the promise not to use the veto this week, and not to nominate Roddy next week if he wins Head of Household. Gerry agrees, not surprisingly, and bashes Amy for teasing the peanut butter and jelly crowd.

Amy is taking her exit from Head of Household country hard, "I do so hate being a commoner," she says, with perhaps less humility than would have been wise. Josh remarks that Marcellas is taking the demotion better than Amy is, and we realize we've seen a very rare event: Josh told the truth! Another houseguest struggling with emotions right now is Chiara, who cries face-down in the bedroom about Tonya's departure. Marcellas tells her that he tried to set it up so there wouldn't be a "Will"-someone that was allowed to stay on week after week on the grounds that they would inevitably go at a later date. That didn't work, so now there are two such figures, Josh and Gerry. Marcellas also says that Amy may be a liability now, given how closely he is linked with her: "There's only so many times you can tell someone to curb their behavior," he notes. Josh is lying in bed chatting aimlessly with Amy, who may have been hearing the footsteps, she says that she's had a feeling all along about leaving third.

Before dinner, Roddy and Eric hold a strategy session in the inner sanctum. They agree that Josh is paranoid and irritating, and Roddy says his efforts to save Josh were "legendary". But disregarding their feelings, they both insist that Amy must leave. Roddy says he'll tell Marcellas that he can't risk nominating Gerry because Gerry might be evicted instead. They believe that having both Gerry and Josh around buys everyone else extra time. They seem to have set an implied pecking order, with Gerry, Amy, Marcellas, and Josh on the bottom, followed by Danielle and Jason, followed by "girlfriends" Lisa and Chiara. Eric makes what may be a prescient remark, saying that there will soon be a testosterone problem in the house, with too many men wanting to be top dog.

The food competition ban ends at midnight, when the houseguests settle down for a Mexican dinner. They're generally quiet, Marcellas scowls his way through the meal and Eric shovels in enormous mouthfuls. The group then turns in relatively early. But first Lisa and Chiara have to vent about Josh in the Head of Household room. That's life on Big Brother 3, where the houseguests nobody likes are the ones who get to stay.
