The Tension Builds - by Charlie Toft
The grass on the lawn of the Big Brother house was spray painted green this morning. And that’s a fitting metaphor for the day. The interlude between the eviction vote and the actual eviction/selection of a new Head of Household is deadly dull. With the game frozen in place for the next day, these people have little to talk about. The day begins with early-riser Tonya rehashing her big fight with Amy and Marcellas. She tells Gerry that she doesn’t regret her argument and she’ll continue to say what she thinks needs to be said. Gerry says he thinks she’s still on the relative good side of Marcellas, and that Marcellas’ ultimate goal of getting rid of Josh hasn’t yet changed. Tonya says that she feels confident of Lisa’s vote, but if she does have to leave, she’ll happily go back to her old life with no regrets. Gerry wonders aloud whether Amy manufactured the fight with Tonya for the purpose of helping Josh. Gerry claims that even Marcellas now sees her as a potential liability. The houseguests are getting at 10 AM, an incredibly early start for them, and begin to prepare for the eviction vote. Danielle announces that she’s made her decision and tells Josh that he’ll be all right. Josh and Tonya both look a little more relaxed, there’s nothing more they can do to influence the vote. Marcellas appears not to have made his final decision yet, he’ll have to vote in the even of a tie and a tie looks likely. He approaches Tonya and says that he could vote to save her, but he wants assurances from her regarding both himself and Amy. Tonya agrees, telling Marcellas that Josh would probably agree to the same deal, but wouldn’t mean it. Gerry tells Marcellas about the recent thaw in his relationship with Josh. As has happened before in the Big Brother house, it’s not easy for one controversy like Gerry vs. Josh to dominate for long; new threats and arguments are always breaking out. Marcellas points out one those new controversies now, saying that he expects Roddy and Chiara to self-destruct soon. Gerry mentions that something will have to be done about “that”, and points to Eric and Lisa lying in the sun together. During an indoor lockdown, Tonya gives some haircuts, it may be the houseguests’ last chance to get one from her. Jason asks Chiara to describe her arrest story for his benefit, and the feeds are immediately shut off. It’s not like we haven’t heard it before, Chiara’s legal situation has been in the news all week. Amy tells Marcellas that she voted to evict Tonya, and made a snotty goodbye speech in the Diary Room to boot. The two of them proceed to criticize Tonya’s appearance, demeanor, and haircutting skills, with Marcellas saying “She’s a mess. Nothing about that woman is right.” Marcellas tells Amy that if she happens to win Head of Household, he doesn’t want her to nominate Gerry. She says she could, but won’t. After dinner, Roddy and Eric take time out to talk about their in-house “romances” and the game. Eric says that he told the Diary Room that he had gotten to third base with Lisa--what a gentleman. They both now believe that Josh will stay in the house, and continue to talk up their men vs. women plan, with an idea of getting Jason on their side. In a possible nod to tender feelings, however, they both admit they won’t kick out Lisa or Chiara before Josh. Roddy’s attitude toward Chiara is less positive later in the evening, when he confronts her over the fact that she’s told the other women about their time together. With a slight exaggeration of the number of people watching the feeds, Roddy reminds Chiara that there’s no such thing as girl talk in here, not with “millions of people watching”. Chiara’s point is that women need to discuss milestones like “first kiss” with their girlfriends. Roddy is worried about streaming video of their kissing. He’s insistent on keeping some element of privacy, which is utterly unrealistic for a Big Brother houseguest, and hypocritical in the extreme. Big Brother informs Tonya that her cell phone is being bombarded with calls, after she and Chiara mentioned her phone number earlier in the day. This leads to another round of bashing of those Internet morons with no lives. Did someone say my name? Roddy questions whether or not he’s been seen in the buff due to Chiara opening the shower door on him, and we know that he’ll find out soon enough. The nominees are packing as ordered. Josh suddenly remembers around 11 o’clock that today was his girlfriend’s birthday. Funny, Josh doesn’t seem like the type to forget that sort of thing…NOT. There’s some tasteless pre-bedtime bashing of Gerry by some houseguests who seem to believe they’ll never be middle-aged themselves. In bed, Lisa and Eric talk as if they’re about ready to give up on the old alliance. Lisa is worried about how Chiara is acting, and Eric has long since stopped trusting Josh. They say that they should agree to trust each other, because what others will tell them is bound to be misleading. By bedtime tomorrow the house population will be down to 10, and the hardcore game-playing will resume in earnest.
