Day 13 July 22, 2002 - Live Feed Updates  from BB3 Updates.com

Tempers Begin to Fray- by Charlie Toft

House politics took the forefront on Monday, as the houseguests found out once and for all what the eviction choices would be this week. Voting blocs began to solidify. The houseguests' bedtimes are edging towards dawn, and their wake-up times are closer to noon as a result. Gerry, as always, wakes up first. He checks out the pool, exercises on the new contraption, and plays a lot of solitaire. Those people who complain about the tedium of Big Brother are starting to look real smart right about now. By late morning Gerry and Tonya are still the only people awake. It's hard to say whether she actually enjoys his company or is just talking to anyone who'll listen to her divorce tales.

By noon everyone has finally woken up and there's little time for goofing around, because the veto meeting is set for 12:30. When the feeds come back after a few minutes, we find out that Danielle's initial flirtation with "shaking up the house" was a red herring. The nominations of Tonya and Josh stand as is. Danielle pulls Lisa and Chiara aside, telling them that she couldn't change the nominations because Marcellas refused to nominate Gerry. She would have loved to help Tonya and have Gerry put in her place, but it was impossible. Chiara asks her who she's going to vote to evict. Danielle dances around the issue, but does say that Josh looks doomed so she will probably vote for him. There seems to be general agreement on the women's side that Tonya is safe, though Josh continues to talk as if it's a 4-4 tie. He believes he only needs to convert one more voter to keep Marcellas from being the tiebreaker.

Roddy is trying to talk noncommittal Jason into voting to save Josh. Elsewhere, with the day's big announcement come and gone, things start to get petty again. Amy is still upset about the mysterious fourth vote to evict her and she's venting at Josh, not knowing that he cast that vote. Josh seems to be trying to grow a goatee, didn't Al Gore wait until after he'd lost? Tonya is showing more stress now that she knows she's nominated for sure, and complains that Amy, Roddy, and Eric are all talking behind each other's backs. She also begins to realize that Josh is campaigning against her, which he said he wouldn't do. Imagine that.

Once again, Marcellas is trying to settle down Amy, who has been in the Head of Household room for most of the past two days. He tries to tell her that her approach with the others isn't working. She doesn't have to pretend to be best pals with Chiara and the others, but shouldn't be so antagonistic. Instead of wasting your time with Josh, he says, try spending time with the people who will still be here after Thursday. Marcellas lets her know that he expects her to vote to evict Josh.

Roddy approaches Gerry for a chat about the game. Of all the houseguests, Roddy is the one who has made the most effort at conjuring a relationship with everyone. For the most part he's been successful in leading each of them to think that he's a potential ally. Playing on Gerry's insecurity, he points out that keeping Josh in the house could be a positive thing for Gerry. As long as Josh is here there will be people nominating him that thereby won't be nominating Gerry.

Roddy and Chiara end up in bed a little later, although taking a nap after sleeping all morning doesn't make much sense. She tells him again that she'll be voting against Josh. When Chiara's talking about the game she's not talking about her PMS, so it's a definite relief. The other women are hedging their bets this evening. Danielle and Lisa both say they are tired of Tonya's stories and don't respect her as a mother. But later, with both Tonya and Chiara present, the subject of a "girl power" alliance is endorsed again. This includes all of the girls except Amy, who the other girls trash nonstop. Lisa reminds everyone about overhearing Josh and Gerry talking early on about evicting the girls as early in the game as possible. Lisa's in a tough position, though, because one of her female alliance partners is nominated and she's being pressured by her boy-toy Eric to vote to keep Josh. She tells Eric that Josh is making her sick and asks him to remind her again why he needs to stay. Eric's reply is that keeping Josh buys the rest of them time, but when she asks won't keeping Tonya do the same thing he has no answer.

The heavy politicking by Roddy, Eric, and Josh himself may be paying off. Josh tells Eric and Lisa confidently that he has his 5 votes now. He's including Danielle in that number, but that appears to be overly optmistic based on what she's told everyone else. Josh is at his oily worst today. He knows that he promised not to campaign against Tonya, but he invents a story that she's showing him another side now and he's disappointed in her. He refers to how much time she spends with Gerry. Now that Chiara has chosen to side with Tonya, he's antagonistic towards her as well. Roddy remarks on the need to solidify the vote of Jason and is looking for an opportunity to talk with him one-on-one.

Josh's "non-campaign" irritates Tonya, she says that Josh has no business telling her not to talk to Gerry. Chiara agrees, and says that you see the real person when they're on the block. Josh manages to hurt himself in other areas tonight, too. Amy emerged from the Head of Household room long enough to cook for the group. Josh, who cheated in the food competition but wasn't punished, was heard to say that he was eating extra helpings because the losers can't. This infuriates Chiara, who immediately confronts him. Chiara is still in a lousy mood later when she accuses Roddy of trying to exclude her from a poker game. Roddy says (honestly, it seems) that he simply hadn't gotten around to asking her yet. Another round of calming Chiara down ensues. Poor Roddy.

At 3 AM only Gerry and Tonya have gone to bed. Josh approaches Roddy for a rundown of his situation. They discuss Josh's chances with Danielle, Amy, Jason, and strangely even Gerry. Josh continues to hypocritically criticize Chiara for her support of Tonya. The houseguests gradually drift off to bed, but as dawn nears Roddy is still talking to Jason, trying to sell him on the wisdom of keeping Josh for now, and promising him a spot in a revised Final 5, with two of them plus Eric representing the last 3 after they get rid of Lisa and Chiara. Jason seems totally sold, but nobody knows what he really thinks. Given the number of deals Roddy has cut, nobody knows where his loyalties lie either.
