Day 9 July 18, 2002 - Live Feed Updates  from BB3 Updates.com

Marcellas on Top - by Charlie Toft

If house scuttlebutt is to be believed, the Gerry and Lori morning show will not have quite the longevity of Regis and Kathie Lee because Lori will be leaving. But as Thursday dawns the votes haven't been officially tallied, so the house Mom and Dad have one more coffee together to fret over the mess the kids have made of things. Gerry, again doing most of the talking, attacks the houseguests for their self-centeredness and says that he will have to "guard against negative energy". Three days after Gerry used the veto, his self-congratulation still hasn't worn off--he says the episode taught him something magnificent about himself. Danielle joins them, and she and Gerry eat grits and treat feed-watchers to a discussion of their morning bathroom habits. Danielle wonders if anyone is watching. News Flash, Danielle: the answer to that question is always "yes".

By 9:00 the others are starting to get up, and we hear the usual morning primping and chitchat. There is a lot of conversation about the right clothes to wear for television. The live show is scheduled for 5:00 PM local time, when we'll see the eviction followed immediately by the choosing of a new Head of Household. The internet feeds are cut periodically throughout the day as the houseguests go through rehearsals. We get something new this year, a Lizard Cam shot. The lizards don't move much, but then neither do Gerry and Lori.

There's the usual round of sunbathing for the women while the men pump iron. Chiara isn't nominated this week, but Roddy conducts a fake exit interview with her in which she jokes that she was on a reality TV show with a bunch of losers. Charming. The feeds continue to blink on and off all day. We know they'll be turned off for the live show but it would be fun to watch the rehearsals. Finally the feeds come back on just after 6 PM local time, with the house minus Lori and with Marcellas as the new Head of Household. It's not great news for Josh's alliance and it's particularly bad for Josh himself, as he perceives immediately. His nomination is certain, so Josh hopes out loud that Marcellas will nominate Gerry to go against him. Eric and then Roddy try to offer reassurance, but Josh is sulking to the point where Danielle, only half-kidding, warns him not to "go Lori" on her.

Much of the alliance is puzzled by the 5-4 vote to evict Lori-they thought Lori had very little support, and it appears that an alliance member broke ranks and voted to keep her. Danielle quickly pulls Amy aside and tells her that no matter what she thinks about Gerry, she needs to use him as an ally. It's not long before Amy heads off to tell Josh about Danielle's remark, Amy clearly wants Gerry gone next. How well Gerry is coping can be seen when he calls Lisa "Lori", poor Gerry just doesn't seem to have a clue.

Roddy offers his congratulations to Marcellas. As he has tended to do recently, Roddy implies that he agrees with Marcellas's critique of Josh and doesn't challenge it. Marcellas' nominations are due the next day, and the only person in the alliance that could possibly influence him is Roddy. The houseguests get take-out pizza and beer, and settle back to some sort of routine-Tonya discusses her breast implants in front of Jason once again. Gerry actually has a cordial conversation with Eric. They talk about their respective financial situations and what they hope to get from being on the show.

The group oohs and aahs as Marcellas moves into Head of Household quarters and gets his special perks and snacks. Gerry corners him alone as soon as he can, and seems confident that he'll be seeing one of his antagonists leave this week. At that very moment Josh is meeting with part of his alliance and the increasingly ambiguous Amy. Josh is trying to convince them (and himself) that Marcellas would be wise to nominate Gerry, since he's so unpopular. Amy predicts that Marcellas won't put up with Gerry getting in his face and talking strategy all week. Josh makes another prediction, an intriguing one: that Marcellas, having survived a trial the first week, could be hard to beat now.

As the clock crawls toward midnight, Danielle approaches Marcellas in his new room. They have a chance to talk one-on-one at length, and it's a fascinating window on the game. Danielle tells him that they need Gerry and Amy for now. But Amy isn't totally reliable-she talks too much and is too eager to ingratiate herself with the alliance. And while Danielle understands the debt Marcellas owes Gerry, he's starting to get very irritating. Danielle is casting doubt on Marcellas' two main allies to this point, offering herself as a replacement and not being very subtle about it.

The two of them launch a vicious attack on Tonya, belittling her for being a "cheap ho". Danielle says she doesn't need to "show off her business" the way Tonya has, or get involved with all the disgusting sex talk. The two of them view Roddy as the biggest threat, and say that Jason isn't so dangerous because the alliance is worried about him too. Marcellas repeats that Josh has to go now-his lack of self-control might get dangerous. Danielle reminds him that he shouldn't trust anyone but himself, and. Marcellas answers, "Truer words were never spoken."

Finally Amy drops by to add her two cents. She seems to have overindulged this evening and is rambling. She tries to turn the conversation toward the need to eliminate Gerry, but Marcellas says no, it has to be Josh first. Then a new line of argument appears-Amy's developing jealousy of Chiara, her "rival" for Roddy. She cries, "I want Chiara out out out!" She says she would like to push Chiara into the pool and throw in her hair dryer. Plugged in of course! Amy insists that Marcellas should not nominate Roddy, and he promises her that he won't.

Outside, Roddy and Chiara have a typical late night chat, with Roddy for some reason, trying to turn Chiara's attentions towards Jason. He tells her he doesn't want to hurt Jason by being too affectionate with her, and points out that he enjoys kissing Amy. Roddy clearly isn't serious about Chiara and seems to be willing to use any woman who's attracted to him.

Before bedtime, which is well past 2 AM for most of them, we get the sight of Chaira using tweezers on Josh's ingrown chest hair. Shaving it has proven to be much more trouble than it's worth, and Josh screams in pain more than once. Later in the Head of Household room, Chiara, Amy, Danielle, and Roddy appear before an apparently exhausted Marcellas. Everyone wants to have the last word with him before bed, knowing that he only has a few more hours before he makes his nomination decisions. It seems that Josh will be in big trouble, but then again, a week ago at this time Marcellas was in bad shape too.
