Day 6 July 15, 2002-Live Feed Updates Part 2

Hello Internet People -by Charlie Toft

Attention is beginning to turn to the “pageant” scheduled for later in the day. But there’s still a lot of politicking going on, and Roddy, a confidant to all, is at the center of it. Gerry thinks of Roddy as a potential ally, or at least a free agent, and Roddy isn’t discouraging him. He tries to reassure Gerry that being an alliance target isn’t the kiss of death—anything can happen with the veto. The key is to not take things personally. Gerry mentions “chaos theory” as a reason for using the veto, and takes another opportunity to decry the crudeness of Josh. Within minutes Roddy is back strategizing with Josh. Roddy promises him that he’ll throw the next Head of Household competition, since Josh really needs to win, and he’ll try to talk the others into throwing it too. Josh is still seething about Gerry, saying that he’ll give a retaliatory nomination speech if he ever wins Head of Household.

Roddy goes into a lengthy analysis of the other contestants and what he thinks their potential for success is. Jason, he says, could be “very dangerous if he decides to play this thing hard.” Roddy feels the women will stick together in the end, and makes it clear that he trusts the other men (except Marcellas and Gerry) more than any of the women. Josh says resignedly that the best he can do now is second place. Roddy’s opinion is that while this might not be true—look at the way BB2’s Will came back—Josh’s first week means that he has a lot of fence-mending to do.

The pageant is on delay while everyone takes care of Diary Room duties. Out by the pool, Gerry, who had the chance to veto Lori’s nomination and chose not to, now tells Lori he’ll vote to keep her in the house. By 4:00 they are at last ready to get the pageant underway. Amy isn’t participating; she’s the emcee. Danielle and Lori also look to be sitting it out. Tonya, Lisa and Chiara are changing into their “swimsuits”. They will be using peanut butter as an adhesive, to hold flower “bras” and waist garlands in place.

The feed is on the bedroom, and a startled Internet audience briefly sees Tonya fully nude. She pulls a thong on, but her topless superstructure is visible for several minutes as Lisa and Chiara apply peanut butter to her waist, crotch, and behind. At some point Tonya realizes that the cameras might be on and covers her breasts with her hands. She looks straight into the camera, smiles and says “Hello Internet People”. The other women are briefly seen in various stages of undress as well. Amy knocks on the door to check on their progress, and Tonya makes sure that no one else but Amy is outside that door because she doesn’t want to be seen naked. It’s a little late for that, she has no idea how much the world has seen.

Amy has to kill time while the buttering-up drags on. Eventually the women come out in their swimsuits for just a few seconds. Nothing falls off and they quickly head offstage to clean up, but we don’t get to see that part. The women return in character for the “interview portion” of the pageant. Tonya is dressed as a career woman from Connecticut, Lisa as a Sunset Strip prostitute, and Chiara as a Berkeley earth-mother. When asked “why should you be the winner”, Chiara says because she recycles and admires virginal Bible-reading men and Tonya says she should win because she’s obviously smarter than those other bimbos. Lisa answers the question by putting on a suggestive act with the microphone.

All the men except Marcellas choose to compete in the Mr. Big Brother half of the pageant—yes, sadly, even Gerry. Their preparations aren’t quite as revealing. Josh is wearing a clutch of grapes for a loincloth. Roddy’s loincloth is a framed photo of Marcellas. Gerry appears to be wearing a tribute to the swan outfit that Bjork wore to the 2001 Oscars. Jason wears what looks like a grass skirt, and Eric is the barest of all, with only a string around the waist to support a lettuce “fig leaf” in front. The men parade around for a few seconds, the votes are tallied, and Amy announces the winners—Chiara and Roddy.

As night falls Gerry keeps to himself, so Danielle urges him to hang out with the group more. He tells her he's waiting for the ‘ducks” game to resume. Lori is mostly alone too—it’s been a very quiet day for her, as if the house has already left her behind. By contrast, the other nominee is being praised for her handling of the pageant duties. Amy is beaming. When the sun goes down the house is still in a sexually overheated mood. The conversation that takes place later is amazingly explicit and personal, given that these people have known each other only 10 days. Chiara and Tonya talk about getting caught by the police having sex in the back seats of cars, and Chiara adds that she was caught twice by her mother.

When the subject of having a “threesome” with two men comes up, Marcellas pops into the room to say that he has done it. Marcellas’s presence seems to embolden everybody, and the venerable game of “I Never” ensues. Questions about whether or not anyone has ever brought inanimate objects, atypical body parts, or videotape into their respective sex lives follow. Chiara and Marcellas seem to have had the most wide-ranging experiences here; the more conservative Danielle plays for a while but is eventually overwhelmed and leaves the room. When Josh drops in later to add his distinctive brand of charm the game quickly ends.

A little later we see some more sedate conversations going around the house. Amy and Jason are talking about her goals in life and how she really looks forward to being in love. Elsewhere, Roddy and Chiara whisper in a bedroom. It’s been a pretty heated day—should they try to do something about it? Lori and Marcellas are in the bedroom asleep, so the couple heads outside to the hammock. They discuss how to get privacy. Roddy begins talking about an old girlfriend hoping to get the feeds cut, but they keep rolling. Roddy then tells her that it would be hard to really be a couple in the house—for one thing, a romantic pair would be too threatening a thing for the others to allow. Any chance for a big finish to this already memorable day goes out the window when Josh interrupts Chiara and Roddy and jumps into the hammock with them. This guy sure knows how to kill a party.
