Welcome to RealityTVLinks.com! A Directory to Reality TV on the web. Day 2 July 11, 2002 - Live Feed Updates Cracks in the Alliance -by Charlie Toft As the oldest and most established of the Big Brother houseguests, it's not surprising that Gerry is the early riser in the bunch. But when he pulls Josh aside at 6 AM to talk strategy, it's clear that he's likely to get a reputation as the biggest pain in the house. Gerry is in full Fox Mulder mode-he trusts no one. He doesn't trust Jason-too good to be true. He doesn't trust the women either-he knows there's some sentiment for Big Brother to have its first female winner. Josh mostly just listens, though he offers the opinion that "the Cartel" may be showing some cracks. They're using code talk to refer to the other houseguests-a typical sign of either immaturity or deteriorating mental health. Jason is "Choir Boy" and Amy is "Southern Belle" (which takes a lot longer to say than "Amy" and doesn't fool anyone). Chiara is up early too. She was in the big bed jammed between Marcellas and Eric, so she didn't sleep well at all. The early risers eventually get back to sleep, and Gerry crashes on the living room couch. We notice that Gerry must be this year's designated snorer. When he re-awakens, he attacks the ants swarming into the kitchen, which is to Big Brother as swallows are to Capistrano. Everyone is up by 9:00. If this is anything like previous Big Brother seasons, 9 AM will soon be closer to their typical bedtime than the time they awaken. But alliances are still fragile-no one wants to be left out of the scheming. Amy and Marcellas are talking again, and they are clearly outsiders in this crowd. Amy says she just wants to hang around for a month or so, make a little money, gain a little fame. But she thinks they need allies in the meantime, and wants to try to work on Jason. She tells Marcellas that Jason has issues with gay men, but she believes that the Cartel's sarcastic nicknames for him and the jokes they make about his virginity will give them an opening. Later, Danielle and Chiara talk money. They're only 5 years apart in age, but the difference in maturity is striking because Danielle was a teenage mother and grew up fast. Danielle brags about her household management skills, saying that she doesn't rob Peter to pay Paul, she robs from all 12 apostles. In the grand tradition of the Nicole/Mike b*tt-shaving incident from last season, Tonya shaves Josh's chest hair. Josh gets into the shower and spends an awfully long time in there. He sings to himself: "Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes-Benz. My friends all have chest hair." In the late afternoon the feeds show the infamous "Front of the House". When the live feeds are restored we learn that the long-rumored "twist" in the game has been announced. There will be a new competition that will allow the winner to "veto" a nomination for eviction. If the veto is exercised, the Head of Household will have to pick a new nominee. The potential for upending alliances is clear. Gerry, naturally, is at the forefront in speculating how this could change things. Lisa, who could be put on the spot again to choose a new nominee, calls it a brilliant idea. Lori is in her default mode-chatty, edgy and paranoid. She's worried that Marcellas is gaining strength and might have his nomination vetoed. The houseguests are confined indoors while the backyard is arranged. They emerge to see a ball-shooting cannon in the yard-the veto challenge will involve firing rubber balls at a target. They take turns practicing, and the early results are mixed. Nobody seems very good at this challenge. Part of the Cartel is gathered in the kitchen. Chiara, Eric, and Roddy agree that Gerry is becoming a pain; his constant strategizing and lack of trust is making everyone uncomfortable. They suggest that Tonya, not part of the original alliance, might be a good substitute for him in the final 6. The night drags on. Lisa and Jason play a desultory game of cards; Tonya and Chiara have a conversation about waxing; various houseguests take their turn practicing with the cannon. Gerry asks Eric "What's new and exciting?" Eric responds, "Not a whole hell of a lot, man." It's only the fifth day in the house. From the kitchen window, Josh tries to get the attention of Tonya on the patio. She thinks his flirting is funny-her boyfriend won't be jealous. Now, if it was Jason or Roddy or Eric flirting with her, that might be a different story, she says. Near bedtime there's girltalk on the subject of Jason. Lori says she just knows her kids love him. Tonya says he's not just good-looking, but sweet too. Josh and Eric drop in and gossip some about Big Brother 2. Josh complains about Gerry waking him up so early. Jason pokes his head in the door and Chiara pounces. "We were just talking about what we're going to do if I don't end up marrying you," she purrs. In mock frustration she screams at him, "I'm offering you a free ride on the express train to Slutville!" Jason can't muster much more than a sheepish grin. Lisa has her hands on Eric-it's only a back massage, but a fairly intense one. She tells him she hopes her father won't see or hear what she's doing, as her hands slide up the legs of Eric's shorts. Later on, while snacking on that delicious Head of Household junk food, the subject of Gerry comes up again. They really don't want him in the alliance, and the decision is final: Gerry's out and Tonya's in. They also agree that Marcellas doesn't seem that bad anymore. Gerry, the first up, is still awake after 2 AM. He's talking to Marcellas in the bedroom, and as usual, he's expressing complete solidarity with the person directly in front of him. Gerry suggests to the nominee that he's getting tired of the Cartel, dominated as it is by Josh and his immature humor. After Marcellas leaves, Amy tells Gerry that she gave her word that she would vote for Marcellas and that's how it has to be. Gerry tells her she might want to reconsider. And as it happens, the new group of six is meeting outside at this very moment: Josh, Roddy, Eric, Lisa, Chiara and Tonya. Josh insists the original plan is still for the best-Marcellas must go and Gerry should be made to think he's still in the alliance. If one of them wins the veto challenge, great-nothing will change. If not, they'll deal with that when the time comes. BB3 Updates.com and Reality TV Links have teamed up to provide you updates and impressions from the Big Brother 3 House Live Feeds.
